V8S For Sale

Hi all

I've just listed my V8S up in the classifieds

I'm looking to move on to a Tamora, which I like to think of as a later model S, small 2 seater full convertible.

Anyway I hope that I will still be allowed out with the very friendly S crowd at Shelsley Walsh and other breakfast establishments.

sad to hear of a v8s for sale, but I would probably sell mine if I could afford a Tamora! Or as suggested have both. Nice looking honest motor may I ask, what made you have the camshaft replaced?

Blimey - is there a fuel crisis coming that i'm not aware of......a dearth of V8s's up for grabs. There was a fella on here not so long ago looking. Spoilt for choice now

Don't think I have ever seen the classifieds looking like it is at the moment. Is that 100% of s' for sale on pistonheads are V8S', ant there's four of them too!

Good luck with the tamora, they seem like as you said, a more modern S. Took the girlfriend to have a look for her. I loved it, but she wanted a Z4 instead

Well I've brought a ticket for the Euro Millions tonight so you never know. It's only £12 Million, but that should pay for a top Tamora, a complete V8S stem to stern refurb, a big garage with a reasonable house attached for SWMBO.

Failing that then the V8S sale has to part fund the Tamora.

I got a local engine specialist place (Dyno Torque) to fix the oil leaks on the car which looked to be coming from the valley gasket rear seal. They kindly offered to have a look at the state of the Cam whilst they were there.

Later on day 1 the call came in to say that the Cam was knackered and that I needed a new one, how would I like to proceed. After a brief chat with SWMBO where a price was mentioned then I gave them the go ahead to proceed.

Then later an 'Oh no dear that price was always without the VAT' conversation after the work was done when I needed the pound notes.

Apparently TVR V8 cams have a life expectancy of around 50 to 60,000 miles. Mine was on 47,000.
Looking at the removed Cam a couple of the lobes weren't quite as lobey as they should be, so it was a good call to replace it. You also have to replace the set of hydraulic cam followers and the timing gears and chain, so it doesn't come cheap.

I hadn't noticed the lack of performance as the cam was worn when I got the car. But I did notice the improvement after it was replaced.

Been looking at Wedges, but could someone please give me an (unbiased!) opinion of how these cars measure up to Wedges?

Could be difficult on an S Forum !!!!


Either would be an excellent choice of car it's just the look of the Wedge.... bit "Marmite" .... you either get it or you don't (imho).

And, of course with the rising value of V8s's you're into the price range of a half decent Chimaera?

Won't these v8's be eligible in about 18 months to 24 , let's say 91 j plate cars , be able to import in the USA , so surely this might be interesting to see if there will be a significant price increase .. Same goes to. pre cat Griffs....

Let's see what happens to the S2 as they approach 25 year landmark this year ..( probably won't happen)

Perhaps it's the Kerridges price tag seting the bar at a whole new level which has prompted a glut of V8S's onto the market. You can't see a proportionate number of V6 S's in the classifieds at new higher prices, even though the earlier ones are already eligble for US import.
If values continue to be this bullish, you'll soon be able to do a direct swap for a Tamora, Bob.
If I were you, I'd hang on for a bit longer!

Perhaps some of them have been sitting in garages over the Winter waiting for the Spring to get the best price. Last weekend's weather certainly gave me a kick up the backside to get mine back on the road !

Not wishing to steer this thread too far off track, but I'm not sure that the USA will consume many TVR's from the S onwards. There is a good following of the marque over here, but my impression is that they like the classic Griffith, Tuscan, M Series, Taimar, etc but if the Canadians are anything to go by, they mostly stick with LHD versions that were sold in North America. The Canadians have been able to import anything more than 15 years old, but they really haven't been very busy at it. Of course there is a big difference in population, so who knows what might happen..... I think of it like Alfa Romeos - I love them, but I'm not interested in anything after the 75/164 era (flame suit on!). For me, as long as someone wants to buy a car from me, I'm willing to sell it and look for another. I enjoy the challenge of sourcing and shipping, but just for fun, and if I can make someone happy by getting a car in their drive with no risk to them, I'm happy with that. My goal is to get a pre-cat Griffith, but there might be others in between.

Looks aside, I think there were some chassis revisions applied on the S (for improvement and economic reasons). Wedges [mostly] come with a V8 from the get go.

Although, as mentioned above, [asking] prices are now starting to overlap with Chims and Griffs. Glad I bought Samy when I did. Long term though - as she's my daily drive - a different V6 is likely to find it's way under the bonnet during the [inevitable] chassis refurb.

I love my s and would imagine the choice would be aesthetics

However I believe late wedges have wishbone rear suspension. S has trailing arms.

Also wedges have a pig ugly dash IMHO

I noticed a thread on the wedge forum bemoaning the price of a v8s vs v8 wedge.

Markets go up and down also it's the selling price not asking price that matters.

Lastly I like the v6 and hope to embarrass a few v8 with the duratech in there. Also I should see 30+ mpg (it's my daily driver) like mk1fan my next tvr will be a tam but not selling the s anytime soon.
