First I've heard about an EU directive on tyres unless you mean the obligatory declaration of a tyre wear, noise and wet weather grading (A - G).

http://www.tyrelabelling.co.uk/

I've bought 6 tyres this year and none of them have this other 'S' marking for noise that I've just read about for the first time after searching:

Given that this will be a wet tyre option, I'd go for the 4.x litre 205/55/15 and 225/50/16 sizes rather than the 245/45/16 that were on the 5 litres (and are too wide for the 7.5" rim anyway).

My recommendation would be the Bridgestone RE002 Potenza Adrenalin, the second-tier sports tyre from Bridgestone after the S001 (which is only available in XXL and XXXL sizes for the current breed of overkill supersportsters and heavyweight übersaloons... wink )and as such available in the correct 15- and 16-inch sizes with a W speed rating and also suiting lightish cars. Probably the closest match to the OE S02s one can get on the market, with the added benefit of 15 years development...

I have recently been looking at tyres too for my Cerbera, the only tyres that my trade supplier could get me matching front to back (back size being the problem) in a recognised brand in the 225/45/16front 245/45/16rears were the toyo t1r's but they were difficult to get hold of and only rated E for wet weather handling. I have not heard of any new EU regs to do with noise but if you look at most tyre labels nearly all tyres are between 69-72db.
I have upsized to 17" wheels as nearly all manufactures then make tyres in the sizes needed giving a wider choice, more competitive prices and should mean no more problems getting tyres for years to come.

For the 16" tyres doesn't the N in the tyre code mean they are Porsche spec and suitable for a heavier car?

Well put. The Dunlop SP Sport 01, which were the last tyres fitted by the factory to G/Cs are still available.
