My new C220 has the slot to take the Becker Map Pilot integrated sat nav system.

Not going to pay £500 for one off Merc, but might take a punt on a £200 one off ebay.

Is it any good?
Are they all the same, ie do they all fit the same slot?
Is the safety camera download any good?

Thanks

Actually, just done a search and found a similar thread.

Looks like it is worth a punt.

Thanks

For £200 you can't really go wrong, super cheap for what is effectively factory Nav!

I'm not the only one to have had problems with this system. Updating can be a nightmare, since the programme downloaded doesn't seem to connect with the unit. It isn't a plug and play GPS like Garmin or Tomtom. Also, if you have the radar warnings downloaded, it'll drive you mad in Europe on the motorways beeping at every one in two bridges, exits, breakdown exits, service stations etc.

Yes, go for it; they're fantastic. I got mine from a German ebayer, brand new and sealed for £200.
I went for the safety camera upload - it's OK but not as good as, say TomTom, but I won't be without it.

I've also had update issues, I have a little netbook that works, but no other computers in the house will work.

Requires a computer connection and only works with Windoze and incompatible with Apple Mac.

recommended and I'm very pleased with mine - negotiated it FOC dealership when purchasing car . My only criticism is it is difficult to change the volume of the sat nav and radio independently when both are on .

Took me ages to figure it out. Wait until the verbal diarrhoea starts from the satnav and press up or down on the volume control. That will then deal with the satnav volume without affecting the radio. It's the only way I have found to deal with it anyway.

My friendly Merc salesman told me today (off the record) that the Becker Map Pilot is carp.

I've had the pleasure of using the Becker map pilot in my wife's c class, I found it just as good as the full size sat nav in my cl63. Was simple straight forward.

Well I've got one and disagree - it's excellent and there's not much in it between that and COMAND. Remind me how much COMAND costs again.

Pointless post.

Remind me how much a TomTom with lifetime free map updates costs. About a third the price of a Becker.

Isn't it funny that a Merc salesman who makes more commission from selling COMAND than Becker Map Pilot would say that....

What? About seventy quid for said TomTom? And it's all integrated with the car controls, voice activated, fades out/in the stereo blah blah?

Don't get me wrong I like my TomTom (though it certainly wasn't £70) but I'd far rather have the Becker - even at full retail.

Voice command. Won't work for me.
Post codes. Three times instead of Maldon it took me to Munden, 10 miles away.
Dartford tunnel. It tries to take me off the M25 at every junction from a few miles out approaching from the south.
Updating. Anyone found it easy? Had to try three computers before it worked.
Radar warning. Beeps every few seconds around Paris and on motorways and drives me nuts. Anywhere and everywhere there might just possibly be a radar it beeps, like every breakdown truck and cop entrances on motorways.
Directions. I have now discovered a reliable source to find the correct route. It's called a map.

I think I'll put a Garmin where the screen is. It'll just fit. Or use a phone based system.

I have it. Got it off ebay for about £200. Great system and I've never had a problem updating it with a PC.
