traces of old oil leak from engine

picked up a used car and flicking through paper work it prviously had an oil leak from the engine, where gaskets were changed, but the oil leak was not cleaned up as the invoice did state for it to come back to get it steamed cleaned.

subsequent inspections/ services has picked up potential oil leak, but speaking to the mechanic today who did an oil change for me said it did look like old oil traces

so what's the best way to try and get this cleaned up on an audi b6 2004, as there's alot of plastic, undertrays, and not something i can do on the drive?

couple of cans of carb cleaner sprayed over it ? or find a garage with a steam cleaner

Don't bother, more trouble than it's worth IMO.

Place a bit of clean carboard under the car. You'll soon spot if there is a leak or not. I wouldn't bother getting it cleaned.

Not with all the undertrays you won't, well not until it is pouring out by which time it's a bit late


Find somewhere that has a ramp so they can remove all the plastic leak hiding devices (or scrabble round of the floor for ages) then get it cleaned if you want to be certain.
