Oil spill on my drive, help!

Hi folks,

Had a (massive) mishap while doing an oil change on my car a while back. Ended up spilling a large amount of oil on the driveway. It's all cleared up and but I'm left with massive oil stains, I've tried various methods of removing them but to no avail. So far, from reading advice on the internet, I've tried cat litter, WD-40 and 'Gunk' driveway cleaner.

I'm stuck I was thinking of chucking some fuel over it and trying to burn away but figured I would ask some sensible people first

A mix of washing up liquid, washing powder and a broom. Then pray for a sunny summer.

What's your driveway made of?
I spilt oil on a Tarmac drive once and even professional cleaners couldn't get the stain out

Full fat Coke, get a few big bottles, pour over the stain and leave few mins, pour some more on, leave another few mins, and repeat a few times then pour on a bit more and brush it into the stain, should do the trick, then rinse thoroughly.

Full-fat Pepsi and a strong handbrush. Pour on litres, scrub off hard. Up and down, round and round. For several minutes. Wash off with a powerhose. Repeat up to 10 times. If it does not work, a new driveway or part-driveway may be needed.

Definitely try the Coke/Pepsi method but you can buy cans of Chain Degreaser for cleaning motorcycle chains and it is pretty good at getting rid of oil

Unless your really lucky then I think sunshine is the only real solution but it takes ages!

I've normally sorted spills like that from washing up liquid neat onto it first, and scrub it in a little every 5 mins and let it sit, then wash off.
The next stage is the clever part, and you need a dry drive, and that's to sweep as much of the fine dust you can into the spill.

Part of the reason it looks darker is because you can see the clean dark tar, and not the dust that collects.

The rest is just letting the sun get at it, and it'll fade in it's own time.
