Hi all. Currently driving a 1997 Celica but it's very bland so fancy a change. What could I get to use daily for £1500? Not too fussed about running costs and can do any work myself. I'm thinking an old jag but just after some others I won't have thought of as their probably older than me! Thanks in advance.

I've had (for or around that price) 2 x Porsche 944, 1 x Porsche 924, 2 x Corrado VR6, 1 x MK1 Golf GL and 1 x 1975 BMW E12 520 and currently a MK1 MX5.

Theres plenty out there, do a bit of research before hand and you can't go wrong. Besides the odd self service items and road tax I've not spent much in running costs, but I'm not scared to get stuck in myself. I do have a modern car as a backup so I've been flicking between cars at that budget for a few years. smile

Edit: Forgot an E30 316.

Aside from the ubiquitous MX5 suggestion, how about an 80's hatch? Renault 4, 5 or Fiesta?

Good suggestions! I must admit I'm always drawn more towards a BMW/jag. I've had 3 x E36's and one E30 so fancy a change. The Porsche is a great shout, I'm going to have a look at what's around.

The trouble I've found when looking for old hatches is that they all seem to be in a terrible state. Also wouldn't mind an E28 5 series.

I've been running a '93 xj40 Jag as my only car for 18 months. It cost £500 and repairs etc have equaled about £600, nearly half of that was a bit of welding and a wheel bearing.
Its great and I can't see it being sold for years.

I just picked up a 1993 Range Rover Vogue SE with 12 months ticket from a blind tester for £1200, needs about £250 of welding that I can't do and lots of little jobs that I can do. It's even on LPG!

Nice call, that first car looks an absolute steal, I'd be snapping that up pretty quick if it were me.
