After a dead battery and the install of a new one, the car shows all faults and the dails are dead. Lights are working and the engine starts but cant get the gearbox into "D" to go anywhere. Was advised to reboot the onboard computer. Because I am stuck in the middle of nowhere (where I stored the car for months) i was wondering if there is a procedure for rebooting I can do myself. Appreciate the help. Cheers. Eric

The only thing you can really do is a factory reset, disconnect the earth terminal on the battery and touch it on to the positive, don't worry there will be no sparks or damage it just immediately drains the power out of every module and resets, put it back on the negative and see what happens

An OBDII code reader might be useful too.

It will allow you clear the fault codes.

I had a similar problem on my old xj8 , i was a bit timid reconnecting the battery and got a few sparks which gliched the computers. Simple fix was disconnect the negative terminal, leave for 5 mins then reconnect quickly so limiting the sparks.

When reconnecting minimise the initial drain by having all doors closed and as much stuff in the off position as possible.
