Not a major noise but I can hear a whine noise, starts at about 2200 rpm and goes by 2700 ish. Same noise, notice it in second and third, forth is too much road noise to hear.
Doesn't seem speed effected so not thinking diff.
Guessing gearbox or engine timing gear?
Admittedly I haven't changed gearbox fluid... or checked... :/ have engine and diff on strip/rebuild

Don't think it is the timing gear, but then again, its an easy check !
Wouldn't be wheel bearings as not speed relative
As said, car on 4 post, check/change oil in box and diff (btw a diff overhaul is 350ish, getting it out is fun, fun, fun........)
In my car it turned out to be the (g/box imput) spigot bearing which was toast, allthough it could he heard across the revs.

My intentions were to inspect old oil and roughly the quantity....
If I buy too much new oil then try and flush a bit in the box and straight out to see if any loose bits left in box etc.....
Then top up with new fresh and test car.. also when testing, going to knock it into neutral, it the car still had a whine and try to eliminate parts I.e. g/box, clutch release bearing.

Dropped old fluid - dark and gunky... the bottom plug is magnetic and had a few metal splinters, nothing major.

Bottom of the bowl... :-/
Roughly 1.5l oil out and took 2l of new in, it didn't over spil the fill hole so left as it is for moment.
Put in 75/90 gl5 semi synth.
Jacked up back end and ran in gears - no whine noise but was stationary so pretty noisey in garage.
Did find my nsr wheel didn't spin much, slackened off brake adjuster and spins freely now.
