Guys

I've been meaning to swap out my crappy rubber steering column for ages but keep putting it off. But now a very nice man has helped me out with a full PAS kit I have no excuse so need to press on.

I've removed the old bush tonight to expose the bottom of the column and get a measure. I've read all the posts I can find and it all looks pretty simple.

However I seem to have 14mm diameter column just past the splines where the bush used to sit. There dosn't seem to be a 14mm internal size bearing on simply bearings. Any idea where I can get one from? Or should I be attempting to fit the bearing internally on the slightly larger but splined part of the shaft?

Cheers Karl.

14mm isn't a preferred bore size for bearings anywhere; I made a brass sleeve for mine (and whoever else it was I supplied them to) to accommodate the difference.

Cheers Ian

I think I found one of your old posts via google. Just ordered a SLFL3/4 bearing and a 3/4-9/16 brass bush from simply bearings. Should do the job hopefully. May need to get the bush turned down a little as its an inch long?

Ummm... errr... I recall the bearing inner was quite long on the ones I used, maybe not an inch but not far off. You'd probably get away with putting the bush into the bearing with it flush at one end, nipping up the grub screws and running a junior hacksaw across to take off the excess. It's not like you'll damage anything biggrin
