Evening,

I am soon to have a need to sell my car and rather than going down the conventional Px route or selling privately I had considered looking into selling via sale or return.

With the above in mind, I was keen to get peoples experiences of this sale method and if there is anything I should be aware of?

Your tips and experiences are much appreciated.

The garage going bankrupt?

I know of someone significantly out of pocket due to a RX8 that was on sale and return. Garage went bust and to this day they've not seen the car again nor any money.

Wow that's interesting to know as being the registered owner I assumed the car would make it back into your possession.
That could be a expensive and stressful situation to find yourself in.

Any others pros or cons are welcomed.

Around £40 to £45,000.

Thanks for the replies I will google the names suggested.

More negative than positive reviews it seems

You would think he'd be relieved getting shot of an RX-8

Long story short.

Left my mint one year old Triumph scrambler motorcycle with a large long established Triumph/Honda main dealer, to sell for £4500. The deal was they were to keep £400, which I was more than happy to do.

They sold it to a guy from Ireland the very next day but never told me..the first time I knew about it was when the new "owner" contacted me with a query about a month later.

It took me about another two weeks and umpteen phone calls before I finally got my money off them.

They went bust six months later owing a LOT of money.

Never again.

I did this a few years ago with a LR Discovery.

I had advertised the car which was a very nice 50th Anniversary Edition for £10,995.00. As a private sale I had a couple of tyre kickers come round and mess about.

The 3 rd person was a young girl looking to tow a horse box and came with her dad , she really wanted the car but was put off by a private sale at the asking price and stated thT she would have paid more from a specialist for the same car for piece of mind.

There is along established Indy LR dealer locally and he agreed that he would sell it on a commission basis.

That anything above £10,995.00 he could keep as his profit.

He sold the car within 2 weeks @ £12,500.00 so we where both happy.

This only works IMO on a car that is a bit different at a decent price

I've sold a couple of cars SOR without problem.

Goes without saying, but just make sure you do your due diligence to make sure they're financially robust and have the right reputation.
