Soft top refurb

I am planning to give the black soft top on my 997.1 CS2 the Renovo treatment(with the exception of the cleaner where I intend to use generic) so that's re-colour and then re-proof.

I have never done it and the car is reasonably new (to me). I have seen some good reports and a few not so good.

Has anyone used this product and have any "gotchas" to look out for?

Product is quite runny so mask up the edges,apply in one go and don't be tempted to go over again whilst it is wet and all should be well sir

Take your time.

Mask up as previous poster said. Keep it somewhere dry afterwards. As careful as you will be it will get on the paint (maybe I am a bit slapdash) don't worry. Tar remover lifts it easily as does a good polish.

Can you partially 'close' the hood on a 997? If so, put a very thin (old) sheet between hood and paintwork, then 'open' the hood fully - does that make any sense? Then you have protection over the paintwork but the hood is fully up/stretched.

I also prefer AutoGlyms twin-pack cleaner and reproofer over Renovo.

Hi - thanks for all the wise words.

I'll be constructing some sort of "burka" around the glass and paintwork using some old sheets, using the closed roof to grab them and hang down the front and sides. I've not worked out the rear yet but I'll think of something.

I can't see myself getting around to this for a week or so - weather dependent, but I'll post some piccies when done.

Also I usually wind all the windows down to protect the glass, then put the sheets over the door tops and cover the interior as well, but my car/mech/hood is a different shape so that might not work for you.

I did my 84 Carrera top with the Renovo dye and refinish. It gave a brilliant result on a tired original hood.
Masking up is really important as the dye runs everywhere, so you really need to cover the whole body with plastic sheet.
First apply waterproof masking under the edge of the hood and take your time.
I did the dying stage at least a couple of times, here is a pic
