I had the same problem. Restoring Defaults on the Advanced tab in the Internet Explorer control panel solved it for me.

Sounds like you could have some spyware/adware which is altering your IE settings (very common problem).

Is your computer protected?, i.e. Firewall, AV, Anti-Spyware?. Let us know what/if any protection you are using then we can suggest what to do.

I would recommend you dump IE, and get FireFox its quicker, far more secure and has a host of improvements over IE.

But if you would like to stick with IE, you could try and trace the problem with HijackThis.

ok I must be missing something .. download the firefox prog off their site, but all it creates is some funny looking icon in my program files folder and when i click on it it asks me which program i want to open it with the icon is called en-GB .. what do I do with it? there's no .exe files, nothing at all in fact, the icon properties says it 4.7mb big so there's something there, but what I dunno

you might have downloaded an archive... you probably want a self extracting archive... try getting the one on the front page of www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

that crying smiley always makes me answer posts asking for help... it just looks so sad.

I recommend you download and install these programes (all free/Trial).

Zonelabs Firewall
Anti-Spyware
Adware Remover

P.S, I wouldn't use your credit card on the net or do anything sensitive i.e. online-banking until you have installed the above software and carried out a sweep of your system with each.

Here is a article I always recommend users read at work, it's gives some good tips and advice on how to use your P.C. without getting stung.

Also get the firefox patch to speed it up. Goes like lightning with it. Dunno where it is but there was a thread on here not long ago.
