Blacked out/up car badges?

Perhaps im out of touch but ive noticed alot of cars about with the badge on the front blacked out, as in it look like someone took some matte black paint to it, like the Renault diamond or the VW logo.
It got me wondering, it this purely an aesthetic thing or is it some sort of marking related to a particular stage of tuning?
Perhaps its a doggers secret code?
I dont know, probably nothing but thought why not ask and see what the answer could be?

Probably just the latest craze from the scene kids. I've seen plenty of posts of people plasti-dipping their badges and it looks good on certain coloured cars.

I have blacked the badges on my CLS 500, purely to de-bling the chrome a bit.

The 40 year old guy who does the postroom in our office has a mk4 golf thats been slammed, pineappled and has blacked out VW badges.

If you look closely you can see the stonechips revealing the chrome plastic underneath!

Likewise I see a lot of older cars with RAC, and AA chromed badges on the grills of their cars - is that something to do with alcohol addiction or real ale clubs?

i remember the MK2 GOLF GTI had black VW badges on the front..
the GOLF DRIVER mk2 1.8 with carbs!!! that I owned.... had the Chrome version...
