Never had anything in mine except a piece of carpet, never seen another Chimaera to compare it with. Should it just be carpet or should the carpet be attached/covering something in front of the battery?

Of course a follow up question....if there is supposed to be something there, is there anywhere I can buy one from?

Mark.

Covering the top of my battery is just a web of wires and cables with the few relays chucked in (literally) to keep the mix an interesting shape.
If you mean where the passengers feet actually go, mine has a bit of board with carpet attached and a rubber kick mat. top part of that is loose carpet for squashing in to place.

My battery was inside a fibreglass box, bolted to the floor. On top of the box was a fibreglass half-cover, riveted in place.

On top of that was my electrical spaghetti.

In front of this was a wooden kick board covered in carpet an a plastic heel/foot panel, like the ones usually under your heels in many other cars.

I say 'was' because the battery is now in the boot.

so my hopes that there was something missing from there that would tidy it all up and look much better..... are rapidly disappearing.

Mine's in a box covered in grey carpet (like the boot) and there's a flap of carpet that extends up and then covers the battery, though "cover" might be overstating it somewhat. However it does mean that the spaghetti of wires/relays has a lower chance of shorting out with the battery.

I've got the ECU in front of this - no space to the side or top really - then the carpet covered kickboard.
