Discussion
Im thinkign of this,

But my mate (J4ckos mate) on here has just bought a Pansonic so may just be easier to get the same.
Just need to get the room ready to accept it, plus speakers, which is a lot of work.

It's subjective. For me the positives against LCD (LED TVs are only LCD) :
- more natural colours
- far better motion handling
- far better contrast (far greater dynamic range between blacks and highlights prevents loss of detail at the extremes)
- better viewing angle
- better blacks
- perfect panel uniformity, unlike dirty screen effect often found in LED/LCD.
- cheaper
They do use a little more power and are not ideal for day time viewing in a bright room though.

...does plasma give a better pic than led?...
It would be interesting if anybody has compared the current crop of plasma/led sets of similar price.Evo said:
We've just replaced a 40" LCD Samsung with a 60" LG plasma, I read a few comments about poor black light levels, and the frame rate not coping with some. Technical detail however and it's a big however, make sure the TV mode is set to "game" and it's spot on, the picture is fantastic and I can't don't have any complaints at all with black light levels, the colour is fantastic, and under the £ 1000 mark too.
Thanks for the heads up............any other recommendations folks?http://www.dabs.com/products/lg-electronics-60pn65...

It would be interesting if anybody has compared the current crop of plasma/led sets of similar price.I have two 32" Panasonic TVs. One "old skool" LCD and the newer one LED, both are full HD with IPS panels. The picture quality of the LED set is vastly superior.
Hence my curiosity if anyone has done a back to back comparison of the latest LED sets compared to latest plasma. Is plasma superiority based on outdated information and does it make any difference in real world viewing.
I was a bit sceptical about LG but I was only interested in the picture quality, all my sound is run through floor standers and a 10" sub so for me the LG tv is really good, don't not have a look because of the name. I currently have the skybox running on a scart lead as i only had the one hd lead, going to get one tomorrow, running through netflix the hd quality is really very good. Here's the front end of my setup

I have a 58" panasonic plasma (S2)in my living room and a 47" LG LCD in my basement. The plasma was $1000 and the LCD was $1500. Everyone says that the LCD is far superior in picture quality. However, everyone also says that the plasma is a much easier TV to watch.
I think this is a function of the technology and not the brands.

I demoed all the current favourites back in Jan, Samsung 6400, 6500, 8000 LEDs, Sony LED's etc, but to me the Panasonic plasma's just blew them all away for PQ. All the LED's suffered with motion issues, and variance across the screen to varying degrees. The plasma picture is just much more natural and cinematic, and the black levels are just in a different league which lends the picture fantastic dynamic range. Even the old argument about brightness levels is moot now in my view (my previous 60" LG did suffer a little in this regard) as we have a pretty bright lounge and i've had turn the brightness down to stop my retinas getting nuked!I ended up with a 50" GT60 which can be found for around your budget, and a 65" VT65 from PH's very own TDM34. These were ISF calibrated last week and are now just jaw-dropping.
