Right, I know there's been lots of threads and discussions about this but I'd appreciate the latest thoughts/thinking of those who've tried various options....

So, I'm running 16" Estorils all round with T1R's, 225/45's on the front and 245/45's on the rear. I'm considering buying another set of wheels specifically for putting sticky rubber on, preferably road legal tyres so I can still drive to TD's without carting another set of wheels around. This would leave me with the TIR shod 16's for a bit of touring (which I'm hoping to do later in the year) and general road use.

The question then is, which wheels and tyres specifically for TD's and driving to and from??

I'm thinking 17's and maybe 8" width... Or try and keep it simple and just go with 16" Imolas all round.... Which road legal sticky tyres?

Wotcha think guys?

Anyone selling something suitable????

Open to any and all suggestions smile

Chilli

I'd go 17s to restrict tyre roll. Its all a muchness, if its street legal it ain't that grippy anyway. You'll soon stress them so just drive faster.

Team Dynamics pro race 1.2 are very popular ,they are very light . If you go on a track days it`s surprising how many cars are fitted with these wheels .

I purchased a front pair of 17" very cheaply from ebay because you can buy them off the shelve ,the rears need to be made but even those are not to expensive .

I have two sets 16 and 17`s with Falken 452`s and a set of 17"s` with Federal RSR`s .

You need to go R888s or very similar for dry TDs.

You can use your T1Rs for road and wet TDs.

If you were only running one set, I'd suggest R1Rs, a seriously good all rounder but not quite as good as the R888s for ultimate dry grip.

For wheels, I have a set of super light Image wheels that Alec has earmarked but give me a case of decent burgundy and they're yours wink

Thats beers for organising the baffled sump and wine for the wheels... I have an awesome single malt thats begging to be exchanged for a good TD seat smile

Richard, if you are signed up for Snetterton a week on Thursday, try my 888s and 595s back to back on your car. So long as its dry you cannot get a better comparison than that. The 595s will be on 17 inch 7j wheels, in 215/40 and 225/45 sizes, the 888s are on SP 12 wheels, which I think are 215/45/17 fronts on 7.5j and 235/40/18 rears on 8j, but I may have the widths wrong.

Slightly OT but what are the reasons for running 16's all round? Purely looks or is it for handling?

If one wanted to do the same, what size 16 would one need for the front?

If you buy a rear pair of wheels ,Estorils or Imola`s you can fit them on the front,

Front tyre size

225/45/16 are a good match .

Just a note of caution i have been trying to get a set of tyres for nicks car and there are no toyos in 245x45x16 in r1r or t1r you might get 888s but even they are short on the ground so before buying wheels make sure you can get tyres to fit we are still hunting.

Good info, thanks chaps thumbup

Not sure what I'm doing yet, as I like the way it looks on 15/16 wheels, but wouldn't mind filling the arches a bit.

Try these people John, they seem to have TOYO, Continental and Michelin all in stock in that size.

John, I've got T1R's 245/45/16's on the rear, but they're over three years old...

I did something similar to that yesterday....

Only problem was I was on the road. It didn't fully spin but I was breaking (very) hard for a corner changed down to second and didn't get the revs right. Back end overtook the front... I was a very lucky (and stupid) boy.

Heel and toe and say goodbye to rear wheel lock up, even at high revs in the wet.
