Pimp my Cerb

No don’t worry it is not going to Charisma but the other night I caught Pimp My Ride on MTV where, for those in blissful ignorance like myself until 2 days ago, the plan is find someone with a $500 Ford but looking for street cred and surprise them by spending $25,000 doing it up

But it did get me thinking that since I purchased my Cerb, its only modification in 15 months is a TVR number plate! No please try and contain yourselves. All very nice but it doesn’t seem to go any faster!

So excuse my ignorance but where do you start with all the various mods and set up and what is available?

Reading the various threads, Nitrons, ECU mapping, new front and rear lights seem popular choices but what are the all the options to consider, what are the estimated costs, and where is the best place to start. First Nitrons, then ECU or what?

I know it’s all down to person preference in the end but it would be good to know how others have approached this minefield.

Personally I'd start with a mini basketball court in your 'trunk', some LCD TV screens in the sunvisors (if you have any), a bit of Velour trim, some shiney wheels and a hifi system which creates earthquakes.

Don't worry about brakes, suspension or engine mods as they don't add to the pimpness.

Oh, I nearly forgot the Playstation between the seats - don't know how I live without one

2) Sports exhaust with decat - Joospeed. - £500ish???

3) Emerald ECU - Joospeed. - £1000ish

After you done that - now the piss taking...

Thanks SXS - very helpful, Nitrons it is then and looking at your own profile a very restrained reply - you stopped short of recommending the 6-litre supercharger.

As a follower of the Palace, the Churchill nodding dog would be a nice addition also must put it on the Christmas list.

To paraphrase a conversation I had with someone yesterday, Nitrons wont help you tackle cornery bits as well as tuition will, so might rightly be higher up than "not on the list" on your list.

After having both an ECU remap and sports pipes, I would go for the remap first - it will make a very big difference indeed, bigger than anything else unless your springs are shagged, followed by a sports zhorst (the bliss they bring into our lives is only rivaled by that of pope amongst catholic TVR owners) and then tuition, and then the nitrons.

This imho is the order I feel would bring you the best result.

Nitrons will make the car handle better regardless of driver skill... and in the unlikely event of a BIG twitch - the nitrons can reduce the roll greatly!

So I'd say, safety first...

To add to the list:
Blended front light conversion: £1,100 or so (with full front-end respray).
Unblended (pods) front light conversion: £700 or so.
Rear afterburner lights: couple of hundred quid (they're just Fiesta ones)
Clear side repeaters: £20 (from Halfwits/wherever)
Clear front indicators: £80 or so(?)
Leven aluminium handbrake: £50 or so
Leven petrol cap: £30 or so(?)
Aluminium gear-stick gaiter surround: £70 or so
Sub-woofer in the cubby-hole: depends on how handy with leather & MDF you are
Leather trim on parcel-shelf/door inserts/wherever depending on original options specced: Again, depends on how "practical" you are
Coloured (red) brake calipers: £10-20 for some paint/proper Foliatec caliper kit
18" spider wheels: Officially £200 per corner. Much cheaper second hand.
Mesh grille behind the front number plate, etc: £20 or so (from Halfwits)
Fancy in-car entertainment (i.e. Pioneer ASIC DVD head-unit with sat-nav): £1,700 or so
De-cat: £100-ish?
Oil temperature gauge: £30?
Aluminium tax disc holder: £10
Rear spoiler: £? Never paid any attention to the prices that were being mentioned

Geeze, adding all that to the Nitrons, etc. I think I can see where my weekends went for six months... Think that's most of the other "standard" upgrades.

But really, car <-> house is a bit different from a straight car <-> car trade. Wonder what servicing on a 550 is like...

(Already settled on the next car having a particularly Bond-esque quality to it, though and I'm not talking about a Z3 )
