Mk3 supra or what?? for 2.5k

some of you will be aware of a thread I started in GG, basically asking if I should get a Mk3 supra.
The reason I am thinking a supra is that I have always wanted one, and they can be bought for fairly cheap, insurance on a 3 litre turbo is hardly anything at all.
but now I have seen a couple of 944's its got me thinking.
what other cars should I be looking at for 2.5k an under that can be classed as classics, I have not had a car licence for a year yet and a 3 litre mk3 supra fully comp insurance is only 500 quid.
so what other cars out there are decent rear wheel drive, largish displacement that are fairly reliable in terms of old cars. I don't really want to be fixing something every other weekend as funds will probably not allow and it will be a daily driver aswell. don't really want to go older than 80's but if its really special I might entertain it if its older, like I would love to have a 2.8/3 litre capri from around the late 70-early 80's. but at the same time, i would like it not to be too old as I would like some creature comforts like zircon an even ABS, if its got electric things that would be great but not necessary.
I only say air con, as on the 87-93 supra's i have been looking at have had it, as well as ABS an electric windows an other stuff.
so can anyone inform me of similar type of cars for around that price point?

Tough call. Sadly ( going by your username) anything along the lines of a Starion is going to be a bag of s
t for that budget, and possibly too late anyway. Even 2.6's are rare these days and fetching daft money ( just look at the prices of A176 Lancers like mine, anything remotely rare is fetching unrealistic amounts).
Not sure if it's your bag, but a GT 4 's can be had for a decent price. I'm really pretty stumped trying to think of a large displacement RWD hooligan tool from that era aside from stuff like Senator 24v's which while obscenely fast, do have a penchant for being a tad unreliable.
I can't comment on the Porkers, as I know nothing about them.

, but i cannot really go more than 2.5k, and thats actually pushing it a bit aswell.1990 Renault Alpine GTA V6 £3,100; non-turbo, so 2.9 V6 (160bhp), rear engine, rear drive.
Not had one but remains on my 'to do' list given your criteria; known problems would be rust hiding under the GRP body, iffy electrics, some difficult to source parts (headlamps I think) but they are very straightforward and most bits are from 80/90's Renaults. Will probably appreciate in value too over time.
