Hmm. After an impulse purchase via an online auction site I thought it might be worth insuring the rolling project that is my "new" 93 Vogue SE.

Well that will teach me to look before I leap. I'm almost 40 with no points, claims and living in on of the safest postcodes in the country. 5k mile ltd mileage classic policy? That'll be £340. WTF??? I had a Caterham 7 on an equivalent policy last yr for £140!!! Show me where the added risk of an RRC is over a 25 yr old Caterham!!

My daily drive XF isn't much more, including business use!

That was Flux, Lancaster can't beat it, Peter Best next I guess but not open on Sat pm.

Any other ideas?

Maybe it's because you'd do a lot more damage to something that got hit with a RR than you would with a Caterham. Insurance is, after all, not just about repairs to your vehicle, it's about other damage as well.

(Just a thought, don't confuse me with anyone who knows what they are talking about in this!)

Mine's due for renewal soon, so I'll wait and see if it's gone up with a bump, but I think at the moment it's well under £200.
Try RH Classic.

Try Admiral Multicar. I'm £820 for a RR 4.2 Supercharged, BMW 740 Sport, Jaguar XJ8. Jaguar XJS and a Morgan 4/4.
No mileage limit and protected NCD.

Good point re. the damage potential!

Tried RH and they said it isn't a classic because I park it on the road outside my house (peaceful rural village etc etc), so £700!

Then remembered A-plan, £220 fully comp on a classic policy that accrues NCB and has a £50 excess. Job done!

Not sure about Admiral but my XF is with esure who do a multicar, they wouldn't do the RR because it is over 20 yrs old.

Thanks for the suggestions, now I get to play!! (by which I mean fix it)

It doesn't help your dilemma whatsoever, but I thought I'd gloatingly point out that I pay less to insure a Supercharged Sport - which is marginally cheaper than my previous L322. biggrin

Less than £220 to insure a Supercharged Sport? Remarkable, I must get one as a money saving measure, I'm sure Mrs Paco will agree!

My only experience of a Supercharged Sport so far was the unusual phenomenon of having to visit a petrol station twice a day when using it to commute "with enthusiasm" ;-)

Spectacular piece of kit but it did bring new meaning to the term "limited mileage"...
