Electronic Gearbox's
Discussion
Good afternoon folks,
I'm looking for advice on Electronic Flappy Paddle gearshifts v Standard manual gear shifts.
Car I'm looking at is 2007 Aston Martin V8 Vantage.
Flappy paddle is clutchless where as manual all seem to require clutches between 40 60k miles.
Is one more reliable than the other also cost whats the difference in cost etc.
Sorry its a long one folks

The ASM is a robot manual. That is a manual gearbox with power actuators. It has the same clutch the manual has.
The short lifespan of the clutch is because it is a single plate clutch and the lifespan of the manual and ASM should be the same. The difference is that is is easy to misuse the ASM and burn it up if you don't know how to use it.
Auto (slush) boxes are easy to use, robotised manual require some mechanical sympathy and understanding to use properly. If you do have some skil in its use, the ASM outperforms any human being in high rev gear changes.
I have owned both and prefer the ASM. Other people have different opinions. Kind of marmite if you know what I mean.
ASM cars have a slight premium over manual. The choice is down to which you prefer when behind the wheel, mechanically it makes no difference if you know how to drive exotics.
