Zero oil pressure - according to the guage
Discussion
I think not.
Aside from looking to see if the 'idiot' light is on?
It is much rarer for them to fail.
It is possible to attach a temporary test gauge, but you would have to have the gauge and adapter. A mobile mechanic may be able to help you with that.
You could try changing the sender unit, they have been known to fail. There are several threads on the subject of improved sender units providing more accurate readings than the original ones.
Other than that, test the wiring to the best of your ability, and then assume the sender if there are no faults.
It can't hurt to try cleaning the terminals, if you haven't done so already.
My father always called warning lights 'idiot lights' because by the time you notice them, "it's too late you idiot"

You should have a yellow LED shining at you on the dash when the ignition is on? Does it go out when you turn the engine over? If so, you have oil pressure and if zero on the gauge, you have a faulty gauge/sender.
If LED stays on when the engine starts & is running, YOU HAVE NO OIL PRESSURE - Do NOT RUN IT in this condition.

Right, just been out to the car...
When the ignition is at stage one I have both red (battery) and amber (oil) lights on. When started I, both go out....
Can I assume this is safe to drive? I would really like to run the car for a few days as it hasn't moved for too long!
Will need to see about getting the belt sorted....will this have any adverse affect?

Anyone give me a warm feeling that it is OK to drive?
Should be ok if the light goes off....but is it worth the risk.Purchase one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OIL-PRESSURE-Sender-Sens...
You should get it before the weekend for you to fit, then you can be 100% sure if you have oil pressure or not.
As for the belt, the way yours is fitted now, it will do no harm but does need to be fitted correctly, the sooner the better.
