Ive been toying with the idea of buying one from the MOD sales - as i cant find one anywhere else..Just interested to know peoples thoughts on the Wolf 90 - the extra money in my eyes looks well worth it but wondered why they never seem to pop up on PH for sale !

Compared to the pre-wolf military land rovers, there is actually more than a visual difference between the wolf and a normal 300tdi land rover. The electrics for example are 24v meaning something like a wiper motor is now worth something like £200 if you can find one. The chassis is strengthened and braced so is a lot stronger than a normal land rover, also the rear body has stronger cross bracing. The interior is very basic although they do have at least got standard seats rather than foam blocks! They don't seem to suffer from as much chassis rust but the bulkheads do still rust in the normal places, footwell a and top corners. Most if not all will be on their second engine if not more. There will be a lot of 90's released onto the market as they have been deemed no longer useful, some are being rebuilt onto 110 chassis but a fair few will be sold.

I'd have one.
The Wolf 300Tdi is tweaked a bit and seems a far better engine and they just seem tougher than an equivalent civvy 90 all round.

Not tweaked at all I'm afraid, all the replacement engines we get are run on an engine dyno before they come to us and they have the results on them, most sit around 100bhp rather than the 111bhp it should be!

Don't get me wrong if I was offered one for a similar price to a civvy defender id have one, but I wouldn't go out of my way to have one.

The old adage of military motors being better cared for is very outdated these days!

Thought the fuelling was different?

Why do you think the fuelling would be different? Same limitations as series production i.e. they "can't control the nut behind the wheel", even more so in this case as the "nut" doesn't own it!

I dunno confused Just a conversation I was recalling from a long time ago. Was certain there's something different under the bonnet, just can't remember what.

Only the 24v stuff, engines are completely standard otherwise.

Some have egr, some dont but apart from that all the same

Interesting that some have EGR and others not - could the defining factor be whether they are "fitted for radio" or not?

No not even that, just some engines were and some weren't, I'm not sure if it is to do with batches they were supplied in
