Evening all,

Just got back from a little blast followed by the football, checked my clutch fluid level (see other thread) and knocked my dipstick whilst putting the scuttle panel on, and the head has snapped clean off.

I enquired about relocating the dipstick last year, but thought it best to leave it until it needed doing.... And now it does.

Rather than replacing it like for like, I believe there is a way of moving if from under the scuttle panel (at the rear of the V) to the front of the engine - a la 4.5.

The car is a '97 4.2.

Does anyone know where I can find any info, or shed any light on this?

Cheers

Tom

Am sure moving it relates to changing the bell housing (or something similar)....

This is a little late sorry, however I purchased a brand new purple handle and front of engine one through Racing Green for my recent rebuild a couple of weeks ago. I did have the early 4.2, metal handle back of the engine type one.

To make it fit my sump I removed the adapter off the old one. Cut the welded on thread off the top of it and lathed it down so the new style one was a tight slide on fit over it. Im so glad I did it that way as, once engine refitted to car, worked out that I needed to slide if off to be able to fit the crank sensor.

Ive no idea how the later one is normal fitted to the sump by TVR as I couldnt find any pictures on here at the time.

It takes a bit of judgment to make sure it is reading correctly.

One thing that was very odd was the difference in the min and max levels of the old style dipstick are huge. But the new style one has a very small difference between min and max, requiring the car to be kept around max oil level at all time.

Here is a pic that might help, it's a 4.5 red rose. You have to loosen the sump nut to get the crank sensor connector unplugged.
