Has anyone had problems with their hood not opening and closing? I've just bought a 97 Boxster and the first time I put the hood down I could'nt get it back up, It has also affected the window operation. I've checked fuses, Relay, and micro switch at the release handle with no luck. Any suggestions??? Thanks.

I'm afraid mine have been ultra-reliable. I take it you tried it on the test drive and it was fine?

If you look in your manual you will find a "manual" procedure for raising the roof so you can make the car watertight. Whilst doing this you may spot something.

Good luck - and get your specialist/OPC to look at it. If you bought it from the trade I hope you got a warranty with it - you should be able to claim. If private, well, it can't be that expensive.

Let us know how you get on.

Are you sure you checked the relay properly ?

Mine has been acting like yours, it was the roof relay.

The roof relay is in the back boot behind a pannel, it is a WW part by the way.

I tested it as well, but it was an intermittent failure, hence taking it out to test 'repaired' it, it then started to act funny again at time.

I changed it and it s fine now.

Thanks, unfortunatly my nearest OPC is Lisbon, and the fact that they are Portugese who have only been selling Porsches for a year or so I ain't that confident in letting them loose on my car! I'll find the problem eventually, I'll let you know.

Happened to mine about half a dozen times when I first got it. I bought it second hand. Mucho panic, but it hasn't happened since. You DO need the handbrake fully engaged.

I was going to have the micro-switch in the roof handle replaced, but it hasn't misbehaved in 18 months. If I was you I would operate and latch it frequently when it's behaving before spending money on it.

I put it down to underuse by a previous owner, or misoperation on my part.

If you are in Lisbon, it's not such a problem, wait till it happens in the rain!
