Tried fitting these today, with offside spacer refitted and am struggling to squeeze near side one in. Whilst they are a bit longer (20mm) than the standard ones they are the same width & thickness. If anyone has fitted these are there are tips you could share please ? frown

There is a way to do it. I think passenger side first but get the engine as high as poss. Jack it right up and pull the engine over when one is in. smile

Thanks Beaver, although I did drivers side first (with spacer) I have jacked the engine up and over as much possible. I've also loosened off the drivers side chassis / engine mounting bolts as well, so I'll persevere & have another bash at it on Thursday.

Yes i think it was easier doing the passenger side first. I recall having a fight and swearing then all of a sudden it just pops in. Its like one of those annoying little puzzles smile

''I've also loosened off the drivers side chassis / engine mounting bolts as well''

you need them both lose.. you can't do one up and try fot the other.. it will never work...
basicaly you need the engine floating on a jack so you can get it as high as poss and push / pull from side to side....

best of luck.. it is a bit of a fight and it is best to do one side before the other... as said... IIRC it was the passengers side first wink

Hi Richard,

I did one at a time using a trolley jack under the sump. To do the near side I had the jack going in from the drivers side, this tends to pull the engine over as well as up, once that mount is in let the engine down and put the jack in from the passenger side thus dragging the engine away from the drivers side.
As Derek stated its a bit of a puzzle to get them in but after a bit of trial and error they will go.
I think I got mine offered into place until they jammed and then lowered the jack a smidgen and they dropped straight in.
Patience will win out wink

Definitely loosen off the other side. I got a helper to rock the engine slightly while I fiddled with the mount underneat and it eventually slipped into place. Obviously the car needs to be securely raised to do this!

Thanks to you all gents, I'll have another attempt on Thursday with the trolley jack in a more forward position and remove the drivers side that I've just fitted mad then try the passenger side first as advised, I'll have a willing helper (retired neighbour who's currently nut & bolt restoring third 60's british bike in 5 years, respect).

You should be able to leave the new mount in place just slacken it right off until you have both sides in then tighten them up.

Not sure about that... I think I had to take mine off again as I fitted the drivers first and no joy smile

Don't be afraid to undo the brackets from the block, once the mounts are slotted in it doesn't take long to bolt the bracket back onto the block.

17mm ratchet spanner makes it easy, (or is it a 19mm? probably AF but metric fits OK).

FFS Peter, stop spending money on lifts & stuff and buy some imperial tools!!! 95% of your engine & suspension uses imperial fixings!

OTOMH 5/8" & 9/16" (spanner on smaller bolt up near head).

After struggling for some time, shifting the engine about didn't seem to help, so I shortened the studs by about 5mm as I found them longer than the originals, they then popped straight in.
I also rounded one of the metal corners a touch, as the casing makes the mount bigger than the original.

All done, as you've suggested, engine jacked up as much as possible at the front, having removed existing mounts ease engine over to off side / drivers side, wriggle in near side / passenger side mount & fit loosley. Then repeat process for off side / drivers side, adjusting height & engine lateral position as required during the process. Wouldn't have taken more than a couple of hours, that is if I hadn't fitted the near side mount upside down in my excitement in getting it in (remove & repeat process)! Lesson learnt rolleyes

Come on, I gotta join that group. Spent over best part of the day stripping down rear suspension looking for a clonk, turned out it was a defective damper!

2 bolts and 15 minutes would have had it off..............
