No Tax, mot or insurance
Discussion
Hi,
I am moving house and need to move a car which has no tax, mot nor insurance..
There is nothing wrong with the car, it was my car (still registered in my name) but is now my brothers who hasn't passed his test yet hence the reason it has not tax, mot or insurance..
What's the best way to get the car to the new house? Trailer would be an issue as it's low as f***.
I could insure it but no doubt my insurance company will want extra money to move the car literally 2 miles... (Elephant)

If you insure it, and it's road worthy, you can drive it to a pre-booked MOT, and then home again. If home changes while the car is at the garage, I don't think that would matter. However, by the time you've insured it and MOT'd it you could have trailered it half way across the country.

Most likely, it's stuff like this where the law should be bent.. I'm clearly not trying to be a dick and drive it uninsured forever, just need to get it to new house. Don't know anyone with trade plates unfortunately :/.

Just pay for it to be trailered and don't put yourself or anyone else at risk mincebag.

If it's legal to tow it then that would be 100% feasible.
It's only legal to wheels-on-ground tow it for emergency recovery - and it needs to be MOTd/insured/taxed for that.Another vote for "trailer" here. If insurance could easily be wangled, I'd drive it two miles. But uninsured? Nah. I must be getting old.

Drive it with a mate behind and in front, take it easy. Chances of being stopped are next to nothing. Day insure it to minimize the fines if you are caught.
Could end up loosing my licence :/ Liquid Tuna said:
I understand what you're saying, bending rules and all that, but what happens if you crash 1 mile from home? Unlikely I know, but what happens if you do?
I wont but I see the point you are making. lord trumpton said:
No but no matter how good or honest your intentions may be, if the worst should happen then its gonna be tears at bedtime.

Any need for the mincebag at the end? Just pay for it to be trailered and don't put yourself or anyone else at risk mincebag.

If it's mechanically okay to drive, then day insurance for around £30 and pre-booked MOT for the day seem like the way to go.
Day insurance is expensive, young driver. Would just have elephant swap the car on policy over. Towing check out the legalities
Or a low loader - 2miles will not cost the earth plus its your brothers cost after all not yours he pays.
Or insure it for the day and take it for an MOT for £35 then pass or fail drive it to your new property - surely the cheapest way to go plus if its in good nick as you say it should pass or if not your brother knows what needs to be repaired before he gets on the road later this year.
