Always gone with the euro tunnel breakdown before now but anyone know any decent deals that will actually get your car home and not just tow it to a garage? Cheers.

Check out ADAC - there's an English bit of the site, but paperwork is mostly in German. You get 12 months European cover for less than some limited time options.

I bought my cover through work that uses a company called Vehicle Benefits.

It's a 12 month RAC policy that I think is basically their top level policy including home start and European cover, it was £78 and would have cost £134 via RAC directly so not bad.

So far looks like AA for me £144, I am a RAC member however, with them I have to pay the first £250 in the event of a problem.

The AA one cover car back to U/K and parts and labour.

Be careful with the RAC. If your car is 11 years or older, you have to pay £100 extra before you go!

I've been having a nightmare trying find cover for nt 17 year old Volvo and caravan!

Britannia rescue is looking best. £130 for UK and EU cover. No car age limits either.

ADAC are not accepting any new members from the UK as the AA complained and as they are the ADAC partner for the UK ADAC have agreed. At least that was the case in November when I tried to join. Fortunately I was in France for 2 months, and they are happy for new French members who happen to move to the UK afterwards

Quick update.

I was a member a couple of years back and let it lapse while I was working overseas. Dropped a note to Petra (see above) last week and I now have joint membership for myself and my wife for EUR109.

Now, that may be because I was a member before, or it could mean that ADAC are taking on new members again. I have to say, if true, the AA would appear to be guilty of anti-competitive behaviour if they had managed to block UK residents from buying European breakdown cover from a German company - I was all poised to write to my MEP to complain if that had turned out to be the case.

Sounds daft, but have a look at Red Penant cover from the Caravan Club. £74.50 for up to 6 days at top level of cover.

No age limit on cars, but must be serviced in accordance with manufactures specification. They reserve the right to pay market value rather than repatriate where the cost will exceed this

ETA a car over 12 years old means standard only which is £49 + a £27 premium.

Get a Flex Plus Nationwide bank account, £10 a month charge gives you Britanna Euro cover for any car your in with no age limit and even covers kitcars (I called them to check yesterday)

Also gives you world wide travel insurance and phone insurance including loss.

I have been looking at this as the cover I have for my wife and I expires today. Currently have Direct Line full cover for my car including europe, and breakdown, homestart and recovery to garage for my wifes car. Renewal cost £265!

Cocompare suggests I can get similar cover from Axa for around £100 for both. I bank with Halifax they over free AA Cover with the account, but its £62 to add on Relay. AXA will do me full europe cover for £64! Car is 9 years old by the way

Cars only under 16 years old they cover. It looks like AA at £144 so far.

I will also be using this lot after seeing it on here and asking a few mates who also use them

Only thing I'm not sure on is that my Kit Car is on a G plate. 1989 so 265 years old but first registered in 2004.

Anyone had any issues. I just paid online and got the cover note through. hoping no issues with this if anything happens

I had the exact same issue when my old Dax tojerio broke down in France.

I used the AA at the time, the car had an older number plate on the car but the chassis was sold from Dax and registered as a Tojerio at a much later date!

Bottom line was I had to pay an extra £100 up front on the spot or they would not get the car back home for me
I tried to get my monies back when I got home but it was to no avail.

I will never use them again for European cover

I would contact the company before you go and make absolutely certain they recognise the registration.
