I'm 19 currently have 1yr nc coming up to two soon and i want to start saving for a new car, currently have 1.6 hyundai coupe which is a nice car but just to slow. work full time now so i have a budget of 5k. Want something reliable, fast and not to high on insurance, thinking about a clio182 or type r any other thoughts?
How much do you class as high on insurance?
Neither a 182 or a Type R will be cheap to insure.
I'm 21, and for my Ep3 with 1 years ncb, 2 accidents declared, 3 years driving experience. I pay £700 fully comp for 10 months with Admiral.
It was about £100 cheaper for my old Clio 182. However the cambelt on the Clio costs £400-500 and the equivalent service on the Honda(no cambelt) is half that price. It's all relative.

Okay just make sure the Clio cambelt is done with the correct locking tools, it's meant to be a pretty specialist job hence why it's so costly. I personally would never buy one without the receipt for it being done.
On a 20 mile each way commute made up of mostly a and b roads I averaged:
34mpg in the Clio and 32mpg in the Civic.
On a 400 mile motorway run I averaged:
41mpg in the Clio and 37mpg in the Civic.
A mix of everything with a bit of honing I averaged:
32mpg in the Clio and 28mpg in the Civic.
However the Civic is a much comfier place to sit for long journeys, the seats are much better, the 6th gear helps and it is a little less rattily.
Performance wise people will argue forever about it but after owning both I would say the Civic is marginally quicker up to 60, a fair bit quicker up 100 and after that it pulls away from the Renault quite a bit.
In the bends the Clio feels more fun but The Civic is more stable and I can drive down the same bendy back roads a lot quicker in the Honda than I could in the Renault.
For £5k I'd get a Cosmic Grey Premier Ep3 and you'll love it
