OK, MOT was a PITA today : emissions are sky high, battery was dead when it needed to start, etc frown

Thing is : they never tested emissions (even no test during homologation procedure !), today was the 1st time in years, and now it fails frown

What can be the cause ? Car is standard (standard exhaust now, standard fuel pump, standard air filters, etc).

Does an M12 have an OBDII port ?

One more question : are there 2 Lambda Sensors ? One for each bank ?

No ODB, but you can access the ECU via a 9pin serial port.
You will need the software.
I think this is it http://www.sbdev.co.uk/Engine_Management_Systems/E...

There's something funny about the cable though so have a search through the forum for info about that.

2 lamdas as you say.

You mention 'standard exhaust NOW'. Does that mean it had something else on it? Could have been remapped to take account of that?

Green3R : when I bought it, the standard exhaust was on it, but I removed it & put a straight pipe (so no exhaust silencer anymore).

So -for MOT- I put the standard exhaust box back (silencer)

@ Green3R : do you mean this cable : http://www.sbdev.co.uk/Engine_Management_Systems/E... ?

that's the cable yes.

There are people on here who will give you a better answer, but I'd say run up the software, reset the active maps.
There might also be a clue in the readouts. Maybe duff lambda.

Maybe drive it for a while after the reset to help it adjust again before re-testing.

Thank you for the info.

I launched the app (without cable, I need to make one), I can choose between 4-cylinder engine, 8-cylinder engine, but no 6 :S ?!

If you are a member of the Noble Owners Facebook group, someone posted up a link to download the Noble branded software, so that will be the right one. Green3r is right about the cable, as its something different. Again on that facebook thread it has a link to purchase the correct cable.

What gasses are they measuring and what emissions are out of spec? Different things cause various values to be too high, so some idea of what emissions are out of spec would help diagnose the problem.

SteveGTO3 : I'm a member indeed, will look there as well smile

@ Jim : no idea if it was CO2, lambda etc : the guy was blocking my view, but he said that emissions are double than allowed

I should check what is allowed ; I think lambda must ba 1 on idle & on 2500 RPM, don't know CO2

I had a problem with my MOT last year; think it was CO2.

Main problem (I think) seemed to be that the testers have access to an official DVSA database that has specific readings for different makes/models but Nobles don't appear on it so he had to look at default levels.

Does that sound plausible?

PS. No problem the year before when Jetstream organised it as part of my service and no change to car spec between MOTs.

Libs : I don't think a specific preset was chosen, it's a standard measurement.

All cars have to be be compliant to the standard.

I wish I could come ove rto Jetstream, but it's a loooooong way from Belgium frown

Mine failed a few years ago and was solved by replacing the Lamdas.

I'm not a facebook user- but have an account so have applied to join the Noble group. In the meantime BZGUY, if you get the link to the Noble software, would you be able to PM it to me?

Changed the plugs a while back, and just put the proalloy intercooler on so might as well reset the adaptive maps and see if it cures a very slight issue a low revs.

thanks

Over here in the States, we usually measure CO, NOx, and hydrocarbons (HC). High CO is usually caused by running rich, which may be caused by dirty air filters, bad O2 sensors, poor tune, bad engine sensors (MAP, coolant temp, TPS, air temp). High HC is usually incomplete combustion - could be an ignition misfire, bad cat, improper timing, bad plugs or coils, lean misfire, vacuum leak. High NOx could be a lean mixture, bad cat, bad O2 sensor, vacuum leak, problems with the cooling system.

WARNING!!!

The download link for the software has a trojan virus!

i'll see if I can download it to a 'dirty' machine and remove the virus from there.
