Boardman HT Pro 2009 Headset Replacement

Hi guys, my headset has died and I need a replacement for my boardman.

It appears to be a semi integrated FSA orbit (ACB), I ordered a replacement from superstar that was 1 1/8", but when going to fit it last night the bottom flange for the fork didn't quite fit. I'm trying to find alternatives and seems to be the only one available is an FSA C40 ACB.

The worry I have is I'll order this and it'll be too big etc. I'm running the standard RockShox Reba Race forks on the frame, so reading around this could taper out to 1.5".

If anyone has any ideas on this they would be appreciated.

I found that, but after my unsuccessful attempts last night I don't think the no11 will fit as it doesn't cater for the tapered steerer!

Oh! Well I have already ordered it so will let you know how I get on.

I have the tools to remove the headset and replace it but do not have the tools to remove the race. I will have to look into it.

Please do! I am going to get a 1 1/8" - 1.5" tapered one so hopefully between us we can get a working headset!

So had the following reply from Halfords.

Which I phoned them up and they said I don't need tapered. Still convinced by it! So have ordered a C40 and CF40 to see if either fit next week, both from halfords so will take the bike down and try on in store before I pay for either.

Went into my local store last night to try the 2 I reserved, neither fitted, but the guy managed to get up the exact model I need which is an FSA Orbit Z 3-1.1/8. So have reserved this to see if it fits next week.

What tool do you have for installing the headset? I bought a Park one after getting a cheap DIY thing from ebay. The one from ebay was just a bit of studding with bolts and big washers. I had read of this sort of thing on the web and people said it worked. It was useless! I couldn't get the headset straight. It was a piece of cake with the Park one.

On another subject, how have you got on with the brakes? I have had to replace the internals on both levers and the pots and seals on both calipers.

Going to be using my mates homemade device which sounds like your ebay device. He will be able to sort it.

Brakes were replaced last year with XTRs, I was getting sick of bleeding the avids so just got some new ones, and sold the old ones! Only about £50 to upgrade.

The one I got from CRC was too narrow. I had to reinstall the old one.

Sorry, yeah all fitted successfully now, went in quite easy. The superstar one I ordered will fit, but I failed to notice the old flange that was stuck rigid on the fork, once this was removed, all slotted together nicely.

Blimey you're lucky I spotted this!

Depends what you want, I went with FSA Orbit Z 1-1/8" I think! :S It was so long ago and can't find the order history now...
