Hi Guys I picked my daughter up from school today, what a blast the drive there and back was mental !! I guess in total about 40 miles but what I did notice was the under bonnet temperature, I know I have the added effect of the supercharger but I'm sure I could fry an all English breakfast for everyone at the BBWF lol biglaugh Other than cut some holes in the bonnet dose anyone have any ideas on how to get the Temps down thumbup

If I have been enjoying myself with a drop of 95 then I prop it open a tad when I get home if it is a hot day.

Hi Zig yes that's is one way to go but I'm going to use both nosecone inlet for a sealed carbon air feed to the air filter, very similar to Adam Oz2.... I think I'm going to have to engage the old grey matter over a few pints scratchchin

Hi Jeff yes I did lift the bonnet when home bud, but would like to try and cool things a little while on the move.... Ideally I think it needs some better placed bonnet vents ! I had thought of using some Aston Vantage S carbon fibre vents but at One Thousand a pop its a little to steep lol...

One option I considered was making a vent in either the side on the front wing or in the wheel arch itself

Clearly with making it look decent / pretty.

The inner wheel arch sounded like a better idea in my head as it doesn't spoil any of the lines externally

Just my 2 cents before I get shot down lol

Me not reading proper.

Probably cobblers but I wonder where the air goes after it hits the rad? I pondered this and blocked up the gaps forcing air through the rad rather than spilling around. It is work in progress, but then the air would be warmer but would the flow force out the hotter stuff?

Hi Glen I had thought of something in the inner wheel arch but as of yet not come up with anything that looks good to the eye ! Cheers bud !

Well yours is probably very similar to mine - the blower gets too hot to touch, as does the top of the plenum.

However I've been living with this for 6 years at least - I think the engine bay doesn't matter as much as the air intake temperature so yes I must get around to pick up the mould Adam sent over and make an air box.

If you think it's hot now just wait for summer!

I have a plenum insulator, keeps the plenum hand hot easy peasy.

In the case of the SX though the air has already been compressed, and it's very hot, so a plenum insulator is fairly pointless, because the air can be hotter than the plenum! So it can take heat away from the air rather than t'other way around.

Hi Mate..I guess the only other alternative is to put some front bonnet vents in and a rear top vent...When Delilah was hot under the bonnet i was going to install a fan to extract in the top vent housing..there is always this...

If the inlet air temperature is ok then i wouldn't worry too much...Ziga

Martin have you got HD twin fans fitted? I fitted the same HD fans as fitted to the Griff and Chim to the Gredge and they are more than enough for the 500 motor with temps all on the money. They are more efficient than the Griff fitting as the rad is vertical rather than sloping and blows the air over the motor. I will be fitting the 400 SE bonnet in the next few weeks so more air can come out of the side vent nearest to the windscreen but at the moment I can put a rag on the gap near to the windscreen and with the fans on over ride it will lift it off yes So IMPO get the air moving rather than fitting vents and air boxes is my motto!

Hi Adam, yes your right on both points fella the supercharger dose get hot although I have a carbon plenum that doesn't get any where near as hot !! As for air intake I now have an intercooler which works very well, it took 64 degrees out of the inlet temps so well worth the hassle of finding the room for it ! But I do think there are still some benefits to be had with fitting an sealed cool air box, so plans are in motion with the air box thingy.

Hi Chris, yes fella I have twin HD fans which so far keeps the temps down when stuck in traffic...May be I'm worrying about nothing but having the supercharger has added more heat under the bonnet and as Adam has mentioned I think we are all in for good summer this year !!

So you were able to save the bonnet fella? Hope it turns out ok bud..thumbup
