Am I the Hulk?

When it was cold the other day, I went to open my drivers door (from the inside), for the handle to come of in my hand!

Annoying, but close inspection reveals E39 door handle are plastic, coated in shiny metal looking coating. Fair enough, No one is likely to pull a metal door handle off, right?

Except, I just pulled the exterior door handle off, same door. Just sheered, ping. Instant bemusement.

So I now cant open it at all (have been rolling the window down for the last week or so).

Anyone else had the handle come off in the their hand?? It's not even cold tonight!

My mum has a rover 45.

About a week ago when she picked me up from the airport, I gave the door handle a tug and the whole door handle array came apart in my hand. Its a small panel attached to the door itself, if that makes sense.

I have an e39 and it feels like its made of granite, I'd be surprised if I broke it.

Not me however I watched my brother in law do it many years ago on his Fiesta.

He's a bit OCD and has to check doors are locked when he locks them, it was hilarious watching him lock his car and then try the handle about 5 times only for it to come off in his hand.

Yep. Generally, its solid. I was quite surprised when the interior one snapped, but never mind.

Tonight was more than annoying.

Anyone want a cheap, manual, 3 door e39?

Still a great car, 3 door or not.

Sod it, its now a hot hatch. 200bhp 3 door. Done.

Not done this to that extent - but it is one thing I noticed about modern Porsche 911's.

My 996 model 911 had proper, solid-feeling metal door release handles inside. I liked the small details such as when I grabbed one, the ring on my finger would 'clink' on it - and on cold days, the metal felt cold to the touch. These kind of ergonomic interfaces in the Porker really gave a sense of solidity and refinement.

Until I test-drove one of the new 997's. PLASTIC interior door handles - urrrgghh! And what's worse, when I pulled them, I could see and feel them bending

Apparently m5's have solid metal door handles..

I wonder if I can use this to justify to the OH..
