Cars sensing that you are planning to sell them

h to start for the last few weeks, but the day the buyer came it sprang instantly into life and ran sweet as a nutAll of my cars have done this.
First car was the worst, because it was going to my younger brother when I parked it up I ended up swapping its engine for another from a donor that was failing the mot on rust.
I guess this is due to the fact of your instinct tells you there is something wrong or the car is getting tired, and you decide to change just a little too late.
Problems that happen with a car still in the honeymoon period or even when you still want to keep it are different and accepted without the car going all Christine on you.

Sold my beloved R5 GT Turbo to make way for another toy.
10 years of ownership and it had been flawless, despite tweaks. Anyway, agreed a sale and on the day he was coming to collect, I rolled it out the garage and went very very sedately round the block one last time. 1st gear, 2nd gear, 4th gear.... Hold on.... Yep, I'd lost 3rd. Couldn't frigging believe it!!
So long story short, he still had it after knocking some money off. In a way, I'm glad I took it around the block for it to happen in my possession. I can only imagine the grief I would have had after he'd drove it away and the gearbox died with a couple of miles of buying it.
Slightly OT, but I replaced it with a bike engined kit car. On my first drive out, the clutch cable went. After replacing that, my first drive to test it and the throttle cable went as well!! Bloody awesome when I got it all working though!!

I had a bird sabotage itself into a windscreen on the way to drop the car off at a dealer (I was p/exing the car). Luckily Auto Windscreens fixed the sabotage and I dropped the car off later in the day.206 - lunched its aux belt and broke its gear linkage, two days before someone was due to collect it.
Civic - ate its clutch on the drive up to get the Octavia.
Octavia - suddenly refused to start, despite operating flawlessly up until a week before the sale.
Fabia - developed a chronic water leak with alarming alacrity, and then decided its front suspension wasn't necessary either.
I'm now inclined to never sell a car again.

My cars have always been the reverse of this - as soon as I either start looking to change, or even worse, once a deal has been done, my cars decide to run perfectly...
engine always seems smoother and quieter, they seem to pick up quicker, in fact they deliberately make me question whether changing is the best thing to do...

Certainly omens. One of the few cars I wished I had kept for longer was a well specced Mk IV Golf GTi 1.8T. I sold it to my neighbour at only a year old. The day before handing it over a pensioner clipped the rear wheel arch in a car park. I thought it was enough to spoil the sale and that I should keep the car and live with the blemish. Anyway I managed to rub out the scrape and my neighbour wasn't fussed. He kept it for two years and also regrets selling it!
