Hi chaps

need to remove the engine and box as one. Is there a knack to it or anything to watch out for?

I will have ramp and crane so hopefully not too tough...

Don't think they'll come out as one, my box needed to turn sideways and have its arse pointing down quite a way before it would go in or out. You got a T5 or LT77?

Mine came out as one. I put the rear up on ramps so that the tail of the gearbox could go down far enough for the engine to clear the front of the car.

It's a T5 - it went in all as one......
But I wasn't there when it happened so not sure of the technique smile

It's the diff that needs turning to drop out, all the boxes come straight down (as long as you dont get the T5 'spaghetti junction' linkage tangled up in the chassis) confused

I had an LT77 box that wouldn't fit through the chassis rails, I managed to remove it but had to remove the bell housing to refit it, PITA as the bell hosing bolts on from inside the housing.

Iirc I couldn't get my one straight down because the bellhousing was hitting the chassis once it was pulled back off of the engine, we had to twist the left hand side down as we pulled back and dropped the rear or it just wedged itself in there. It moved fine backwards and forwards, but didn't want to do down smash

cheers chaps - anything to bear in mind removing the prop shaft from the box or is it just straight off?

I don't think that's quite right IIRC, the LT77 is not the problem but the bellhousing wont drop out of the chassis if left attached ~ well known glitch you have to split the engine / bell pull back and unbolt the box from inside. Twisting/turning will make FA difference to the scenario I was discussing.

Be careful what you post here ~ some poor owner sometime may end up tilting / rotating parts in frustration after reading PH tips wink

OP: biggest tip is raise backend to create more room to swing out ~ still beneficial IMO on a lift (with ample ground clearance) as if you tilt the hanging box+engine assembly it will tend to swing forward (at bottom ie crank pulley area).
& drain box as when you pull prop shaft oil will piss out as you crane the unit.

It was all fairly basic and nothing weird in unbolting it all, just the access that was pants. Along with draining the box first I would also say take the centre console out of the car to make it easier to unbolt the gear linkage, I tried to do it from underneath with pictures and wish that I just did it from on top from the start smile
