Thinking of buying a new Hyundai/Kia. Will I regret it?

More specifically a 7-seat Santa Fe or Sorento. On paper, either are quite compelling as a new car purchase. Lots of kit for the money, competitive price, power and fuel economy and a better than average warranty.
My only concerns, (perhaps unfounded) is that they will fall apart in a few years and be worth virtually nothing. I want to keep it for a long time (8-10 years). Are either of these good options or should I be looking at something a bit more expensive from one of the more established Japanese manufacturers like Mazda, Toyota or Nissan?

I had a Santa Fe for 7 years (2000 model bought new) the only thing I replaced on it was a battery. I am US based, I think my vehicle was built in Korea - I believe they now manufacture in the US.
The car was bulletproof (came with a 10 year warranty in the States).
You won't be disappointed. My brother in law works for Toyota (US Corp. headquarters) and he tells me that Toyota regard Hyundai/Kia and their only major competitor.

We recently went to have a really close look at the Sorento. Kia really seemed to have stepped up the game in terms of both looks and quality feel (but as you say may fall apart in a few years, who knows). What didn't stack up for us was the depreciation factor. Kias will depreciate fast, which might not be a factor if keeping for 8 years but for us and maybe changing after 3 years left us thinking twice. The final nail for us is we wanted the range toppin KX-4, but they only did these in auto and I only wanted a manual.
We may take a look at a used one in 12 months when I may be more prepared to buy an auto because the worse mpg wouldn't feel as painful because of the big hit on depreciation was taken by someone else.

I have owned a Hyundai for 3 years, it was just perfectly reliable excluding a few wheel bearings that are a known weak spot on that model. Felt like it would last for ever to be honest and I'd own another without hesitation. In fact my parents are car hunting in a couple of months to replace their 9 year old Focus that they bought new and I'm taking them to a Kia dealership as my first port of call.
It will be fine.
My sister has an 05 plate picanto which she has had for 5 year, nothing has fallen off. The only thing she had to do was replace the handbrake mech, due to misuse. It had not been serviced for two year. It only has about 65k on though.
My mam has a 59 plate sportage bought brand new which has needed nothing, only gone through one set of tyres also, has about 40k on.
My uncle had a sedona with nearly 300k on before he swapped it for another.

Sorry, but you are way off the mark there. Residuals for KIAs in the real world are very strong, largely thanks to the long warranty. I'm not saying that they don't take the same initial hit that all makes do, but 3 to 5 year old KIAs hold their value better than even so-called prestige makes just coming out of warranty.I keep looking at decent spec diesel Cee'd SWs with a view to eventually getting one to replace our family hack 307SW, and 3-4 year old ones rarely drop below 9k.
