I was at Castle Combe recently - fantastic circuit and very well run event.

The only problem was that I picked up a load of stone chips on the front of my car and windscreen. I mentioned it to a friend and he said that he had the same problem a few months before.

I called the circuit and they didn't seem interested - I felt like they thought that I was looking for compensation. I wasn't, I just wanted to inform them so that others didn't have the same problem in the future and I would actually like to go back if I knew that it was clean.

I have been to Silverstone, Thruxton and Goodwood and apart form rubber marks from marbles (which I expect) I have never had a problem.

Anyone else have a problem there or is it just a one (two) off?

Some corners on combe are often cut and have concrete ridges instead of a kerb. Its easy to touch the grass and drag all sorts of crap on track.

This is especially true at old paddock.

Would be nice if they ran a sweeper around the rough racing line at lunch or something.

Thanks for the replies smile

I dont like to "crowd" people so I give lots of space on the corners and only overtake on the straight - people were very good at castle combe I found. Also it wasnt too busy.

Could have been pulled in from the inside when people cut corners but I would expect the same at other tracks if that was the only cause.

I have been to Coombe a number of times and have not noticed this.

All it needs is one person to run wide and all sorts of crap can get onto the track.

Road sweeping would be nice but i cannot see that happening - if you notice anything on the track you should be sure to mention it to a marshall as it might create a hazard - I don't have a windscreen…...

Do you actually have a car at the moment Mike - it's now April and we have yet to see you out there????

As for stone chips at Combe, like Mike said, I have done lots of days there and have never had a problem. I have also done lots of airfield days and usually there is plenty of grit about in the early sessions, but compared with the road trip to get to the trackday, the problem is very minor.

Thanks, I guess if Mike has no car then that would explain the "no windscreen" comment wink

Thanks both for your replies. It sounds like I may have caught a bad day.

I think that I will give it another try because I really liked the circuit to drive.

Kind regards

Marc

I was there last Saturday and noticed they have constructed a new rumble strip on the apex of Camp Corner. Maybe it was a bit of builder's debris left behind.

I have been doing days there for about 10 years now and never had a stone chip problem. Maybe some people had been on off track excursions and brought some gumpf from the field onto the track. Or what the other chap said about the new curb might explain it. Its usually quite a tidy track as marshalls sweep around during race meets, though I don't think they have had one yet this year so maybe it was your trackday clearing the winter dirt from the experience days. I usually just end up with a few rubber marks from trackdays.
