Sorry if i start with a rant, but MBNA have really p#ss#d me off this morning! Jan 2014 - I remembered had a Credit card with them and called to check the balance, they informed me that the account was in credit and refunded me the amount and advised that I cancelled the DD. I asked to close the account and was advised to leave it open as it helps with your credit rating (bo##ocks!)

Fast forward to today iv'e received a letter stating a missed payment and I owe them £14 in charges. I called up MBNA and they said that there was a £2 balance left on the card in Jan, and therefore the charges have been building up. I haven't received any statements or letters from them in the post and they state that they don't have the call recording from Jan.

What the hell do I do, as I don't want this on my credit file???

Ask to speak to a manager inform them of the situation and state you won't go away until the charges are credited. Should do the trick.

Yeah, they offered to refund the charges, but can't sort my credit file, which is my main concern.

Refunding the charges is an admittance of it being their error, advise them of this and that you will be escalating it until it's resolved.
