Going back through a few threads there seems to be a couple of options mentioned, Saxo or Vectra?

Anyone with either fitted got any comments, good, bad, indifferent?

Pictures would be nice too!

thanks.

Saxo / pug is as fitted by TVR to later cars...

They need proper hefty electrical connections (70A) hence relay connections, you have to solve how to switch a relay to power them. I would have liked the ECU to control this (but they never have enough outputs!) but had to fall back to using the fuel pump... Luckily the fuel pump also powers the + side of the purge valve so you can take a line to the relay from that.

We did get hold of a Vectra pump but it was massive...

Took a lot of work making substantial brackets to fit the pump in a griff.. but nicely all away from exhaust heat & short neat pipe runs.
Best tip I can offer is to get BSP M/F adapter/extension which raises the port on the rack, then you can use a banjo so the pipe goes where you want it (off forwards).

Thanks, didn't realise later cars were electric as standard.

was thinking of switching the relay from the ignition switch?

Will you (and the car with it fitted) be at Burghley, if so would you mind giving me your phone number so I can find you and take a look?

I must admit I wanted to do this conversion, even got the pump to template !

But trying to find someone to wire it or even anyone who understood it was a problem, and still is.

SSPG done a conversion with a griff and said it was a great improvement

To be fair never asked if he would be interested in fitting it ?

Speed6 cars as in later...

If you power from the ignition do you really want it running before & during the starter motor cranks???????? Size of the cables required made me think it could be a battery / starting killer...

No & no.

Fair point !

How about a normally closed relay that opens when cranking?

In circuit with handbrake switch, h'brake on = no power steering?

....... am I over complicating this? scratchchin

I'll look at the fuel pump feed, thanks.

Yes & adding too many points of possible failure.... KISS always seems to work best wherever possible wink

The rack even just pulse pressurized by the fuel pump prime seems to give a turn with assistance IIRC. I really don't understand why the pump needs so much power ~ whether its just getting the pressure up to start / under load......... but its fairly scary when you see them wired up with battery cable (well thats about the battery cable size on those little cars anyway!)

I have the Saxo pump with the remote reservoir bolted to the floor of the near side wing. Thepump is basically a cylinder so I bent a few strips of metel around it and stuck some bolts through the floor bedding it down on rubber. Only problem with this is due to the angle the bolt goes through the floor and the curve of the underside of the wing the bolt head sits proud on one side.

If you get the Saxo pump make sure you get the grey relay and wiring with it.

In its location the existing high pressure hose will fit. I drilled a hole in the engine bay just behind rad and fed it through.

I have the remote reservoir (which came with the pump) in the wing which means the whole engine bay is less cluttered with pipes.

I also ran the relay feed from the fuel pump feed. Halfrauds sell a wiring kit in the audio section that had everything I needed including an 80 amp fuse god only knows what sort of stereo needs 80 amps!

Can take a few photos later of it helps anyone, however, I am sure there are more beautiful installs around.

I am also going to get a Scooby rack sorted and in stock for the next time I pull the front of the car to bits. I assume Scooby rack and Saxo pump are viable?
