Hi,

I will be looking to get my Z4m Serviced in just over a thousand miles.

Where is the best place to take an M car these days for service works? I would ideally like to know around London or South if possible. Its an S54 that requires Ins 2. I really want to make sure the shims are done properly and its running sweet!

I'm not looking for the best price, but the best service. Indy or main dealer recommendations would be fine.

So far, car has full BMW SH, but to be honest, i'm not sure I rate their service any more, but happy to be proved wrong.

I was going to use (and still might) Iridium Engineering just outside Southampton, but having moved towards London, it will cause some inconvenience getting the car there and back, so I thought I would see if there would be anything more suitable closer by.

Thanks

Iv just used Technosport near Staples Corner I paid approx £750 for an Ins II and brake fluid.

The workshop was clean, had about 20 m cars in from M5's to CSL's and my car came back clean and tidy.

The owner has a highly tuned M3 race car so is very knowledgeable when it comes to the S54 smile

I was very impressed with Iridium and would use them again despite it being inconvenient to get to. I'm 15 mins from ML and have used them also but prefer Iridium.

I'm thinking of using TWG Automotive in Camberley for my Insp II

I'm bringing my E46 M3 over from Jersey to the mainland in the summer for a blast and to get the Inspection 1 done.

Anyone have any experience with Munich Legends near (ish) Gatwick?

Yes, selling (2), purchasing (1) and service (many)
The treatment I have had under their new owner DN, is fantastic.
In the last 5 years they have sold two cars for me and I have bought one from them.
Had various servicing/works done.
Top quality and reasonable prices.
Cannot recommend them highly enough….excellent throughout.

+1. When I had my M5, I had most of the work done on it by Phil and team, even though it was a 150 mile round trip. Worth it for their depth of experience and knowledge...

I've had nothing but bad experiences there, admittedly not in a proper M car, but with M techs doing all the work. I know for a fact that the techs thrash cars on test drives in the area.

Thanks for all the replies. Seems there isn't one place that is the place to go.

I will have a think and look at the recommendations. I think I still like the idea of Iridium Engineering, so might have to work out getting the car to them.

You won't go wrong with Sean, great service and no BS, he's a M car fanatic to boot and has a lovely silverstone M5. My M3 doesn't go anywhere else.

Thanks guys. My main concern is that its an Insp 2, so I really want to make sure the valve shims are measured and re-shimmed correctly. As its such a major service and can really effect the way these cars run, I want to make sure the best person does it, if you know what I mean. I don't have any interest in the new boy at a BMW dealer having a go at it, as its an "old" car, while the main techs change the oil on a 418d or whatever as its new out etc!

I have seen a Z4m recently have issues with worn followers, only 9K miles after a BMW Isn 2 probably because it wasn't shimmed properly. The bill was large obviously!

I personally don't hold any regard now with an S54 powered car that is serviced at a BMW Dealer any more! A recommended Indy, who will document the process, and knows the engine will do a much better job in my opinion.

I'm sure I'll be corrected on this if I'm wrong but...

...when I was buying my E46 M3 earlier this year I spoke to the guys at Munich Legends (They'd done a thorough non-service overhaul of my car when the previous owner was buying it in November 2012) and they advised that for an Insp 2 you need to leave the car with them overnight to allow everything to be stone cold before any clearances/measurements/adjustments are done. I expect this is standard protocol but it's something worth bearing in mind.

George certainly knows his stuff. their new workshop is a real step up from the last one. last time i was here they had an M6 in for a rebuild amongst a lot of very nice machinery.
