I've seen many of these on the road, but for the life of my can't understand why everyone seems to love them?..
To me, they look like a mini BMW x7 (that everyone seems to hate), and believe they even come in a 3 door version!?... I'd imagine steam coming out of pH members arses had bmw made anything similar.
So then, what exactly have I missed?

I feel like I may be wasting my breath as you've already written it off. The styling, practicality and raised driving position are attractive to a lot of people. The typical German mini-SUVs are much of the same where the Evoque is a more appealing piece of metal to have sitting on your drive, and to be inside of. The massive panoramic roof wasn't that common on other cars when it first launched either. They are quite good fun to drive by all accounts too.
A mini X7 would be the X3, btw. Take a look at Evoque and the X3 side by side and you'll see why one is vastly more popular. Audi's Q5 is equally drab.

The looks are a personal choice for any car, but personally I really like the shape. The standard spec is very impressive - spec up an Audi Q3, Q5 or even a Ford Kuga to similar levels and you aren't far off the same price.
Add to that great residuals, high up driving position, great off road capability if you need it, nice chasis, comfy suspension and the awesome panam roof, DAB radio, lovely comfy insides - and British built - whats not to like?
They aren't much bigger than a Ford focus in length, but the width gives the feel of more room inside. They also look great inside and well laid out - compared to the competition it was streets ahead.

I agree with everything except great off roading ability. Yes it can go off road better than a standard hatch, but only if you get a 4 wheel drive version, and even then it isn't great off road. To be great off road it has to have locking differentials, high ground clearance, proper tyres and bags of torque. The Evoque has none of those.I really liked them when they launched but I think with how popular they are now and how many you see has took the edge off for me a bit but from reading opinions from owners they seem very happy with them.
We nearly bought one but thanks to the lousy main dealership experience that put the stops on that the arrogance of the sales people seems to come as standard.

Would have to bow to your experience on this as we rarely go offroad (although I do quite fancy it as a hobby if the misses would ever let me loose in her pride and joy 
). However we did an offroad experience day as part of the buy and I thought it was pretty impressive; streams, big hils (up and down) etc and it seemed to be very good at it - at least to my armature eye. Was a lot of fun anyroad

Book yourself a Land Rover Experience session and prepare to be impressed...I like the design, but don't know what they're like to drive, and as I don't need a 4x4 I wouldn't buy one. Lot nicer looking than the German opposition though (apart from this shocker I saw today - feel free to disagree PHers

Agreed, the LR Experience sessions are great and make me briefly forget what a shower Land Rover is. If the reality of owning a Land Rover product was as good as the Land Rover Experience courses, no one would drive anything else. The best ever marketing event for any product I have ever been to was the new Vogue launch. A number of the cars developed faults, but it was about the best executed marketing of a product I have witnessed. I deferred buying one pending Land Rover finishing testing of the product, probably about two years after launch.
