What do people use on here when needing to remove tiger seal?
I've been using this today with pretty good results

Now - any tips for removing the carbon canister and associated pipes? I've got a bung for the plenum, but I can't work out how to get into the inner wing to remove things, am I being stupid? Is there any form of access to the inner wings or am I going to have to make some sort of a door?

I think you access it through the headlight adjusting hole and there should be two fixings if I'm correct, how you get it out of there I have no idea Brett! I'll have a look at mine in the morning but I don't think there's another hatch!

thanks mate, I haven't adjusted the headlights before but where do you access it from? There isn't anything in the wheel well?

Just cut the pipe at the canister then pull the pipe out in to the engine wing . Then buy a new grommet to seal the inner wing

You should have an inspection hole behind the headlight inside wheel arch, small screws but the cover panel might just be mastic'ed on, it should be round.

Worth noting that this is all on a W Reg 2000 car, so...

Canister lives in the front offside wing just in front of the wheel arch. As has been mentioned you should have an inspection hatch in the wheel arch to change the bulbs through. Below is the hatch removed and the canister can be seen. It is attached via 1 jubilee clip that has a thread attached. This thread passes through the body and is secured with a nut. This can just be seen to the left of picture.

Another view through the front.

There are 3 pipes connected to the top. The first winds its way back up inside the wing and emerges half way along before connecting to the trumpet base. The second snakes its way across the front of the engine bay and then all the way down the nearside to the fuel tank. The last just vents to fresh air in the engine bay. There is finally an electrical connection on the top of the canister.

Even if you manage to get the pipes off and the electrics disconnected I can't really see how it can be removed. There isn't room through the wheel arch hatch and you can't get it through the front (unless you have an earlier car in which case this may be possible). I've just refitted mine, but as I'm doing a body off the radiator was out and this made it very easy. With the rad in then access is pretty poor no matter which way you come at it.

Hope that helps

Thank you that helps a lot, it's a 93 model so will have a proper look tomorrow
I couldn't see any access panels but thought there must be for headlight adjustment etc? They might have just been painted/sealed over though. If I can't work out how to remove it, I will just un do it and remove the pipes.

numpty question #1:
Whats the benefit in removing it? Would this cause any issues? Would you need to fit an alternative or is it literally just a case of removal?

I was wanting to remove the canister and relocate the washer bottle in its place, leaving more room for my oil cooler.

There's no hole in the arch on the early cars it's all in the grill

yes

Only way to get enough access to completely remove it, is to take the radiator off.
