I fly a hell of a lot so looking a pair of noise cancelling type headphones for use with my iPad on the plane.

Was going to go for the Bose QC3's, but saw the B&W P5.

Any views either way? Any other alternatives?

I appreciate the B&W aren't noise cancelling

I can't advise on the B&W ones but I have the QC3's and they are brilliant. The comfort and noise cancelling of the headphones is very impressive. Some people prefer the QC15's but I found them too hot for my ears.

I have a pair of QC15's and they can get quite warm, but I'm not sure they're any "hotter" than other over the ear phones?

I had heard of the issue of hot ears with the QC15's, hence why looking at the on ear types rather than over ear

I was recently in this situation and went for these - http://www.richersounds.com/product/all-headphones...

They get GREAT reviews and the sound quality is in a different league to other similarly priced N/C headphones.....

Definitely go with the Bose. I have the QC15 and the B&W P5. The P5 definitely sounds nicer if you are sitting at home or for general non-air travel, but the noise cancelling on the QC3/15 is so good on the plane that it makes them perfect for that use.

Bose get a lot of stick for the overpriced products that they produce, but the noise cancelling headphones are one thing that they seem to do better than anyone else.

I never use them when not on a plane though!

I use Sennheiser mmx 450-x - Blutooth, noise cancelling, with microphone for calls, and music track and volume control. oh and foldable. the microphone can also be used in 'passthru' mode which means you touch the earpiece and it acts aa a microphone so you can hear conversations without actually taking off the headphones. Also removable and replaceable battery just in case you want extra running time. alternatively they can be used wired if the battery runs out.

use them daily, morning and night on my tube commute.

They seem to be well built with metal headband. the only problem I have found (and its not really a problem) is they appear to be sensitive to the charger you use. As they are Mini USB its tempting to use a none sennheiser charger. Some are ok, but others don't seem to charge the battery.

however I will freely admit the noise cancelling isn't as good as the Bose, but the other stuff more than makes up

There is also the pricier but bigger over ear 550's

I would go for the QC3....

My wife stole my 15's which I am not overly disappointed about as I prefer the on ear design of the 3's.

I looked at the P5's, but as mentioned above, these are great if you are listening at home etc. and not so great when travelling.

Thanks all. Think I'll go with the QC3's due to flying so much
