Pretty simple one, want to replace the plastic trim on the N/S B pillar of a 997. Happy to have a go myself if it is fairly simple but there are not many of these questions on PH, is there a better place to ask like rennlist?

By all means chip in if you do have the answer of how to do this piece of DIY

Thanks

The Porsche PET parts catalogue diagram may help, it can be found and downloaded from Porsche's website.

The seatbelt adjuster pulls straight off to reveal the bolt holding it in place. Undo this. Next unclip the clothes hook and there are a couple of screws under there. Then the whole thing just unhinges off.

Thanks both - very useful advice.

Just bought the part on eBay so now feel fully equipped to make a total hash of this smile

I know this will sound ridiculous, but do take care not to invalidate your warranty...

I don't have one as its a 2008 car, but hypothetically if I bought an OEM part like that and fit it myself and then stupidly told an OPC I did it, why would it invalidate the warranty?

(It's a small piece of leather coated plastic trim that one of the previous owners scratched to hell, not sure how, maybe getting a car seat in and out carelessly)

Well that went as well as I expected

Good news
replacement part is right one and much better condition than existing
I didn't break anything
got the seat belt adjuster cap off ok
got the coat hook trim off ok and saw the screws
I didn't break anything
I didn't break anything

Bad news
couldn't find the screw under the seat belt adjuster cap
couldn't put the seat belt adjuster cap back on again

smashmadlaugh

NBTBRV8 - can you show me on this picture where the screw is, I see a hole at the bottom which goes to what looks like a cap over a screw, but I wasn't sure and as I couldnt easily prise it off so left it alone. If it is that do I need a needle or similar to get it off?

It is a awkward design, but you have to pull it off with a lot of force.

not sure how I supposed to measure this either confused

"Use 37 ft-lb of torque when you reinstall this machine screw later"

so I need a torque wrench?

Yes it pulls straight off.

You don't "need" a torque, just do it up tight, but don't strip it.

All done, many thanks NBTBRV8 beer

A small job to some but very satisfying to a mechanical dunderhead like myself

£25 part off eBay and an hour of my time versus £100 part and £100 fitting from OPC no doubt

No problems, glad you got it done. I am sure it would be dearer than that new though.
