Hello everyone,
I have driven been introduced to this car briefly and have been in the car for a ride that can only be described as "scary fast" even though we were not pushing it. As a US potential buyer I am wondering if I should wait a bit. My questions are as follows:

1) Will the 3R get the M400 Sterring rack with the better turning radius?

2)Will the 3R get the better shift linkage?

3)Am I missing anything?

I beleive it already has been given the new rack, not sure on the linkage but I'd guess so.

Seats are different, who knows if that'll filter down.

Was told firmly that I couldn't retro-fit linkage as that is my only real gripe about car.

But I suppose new 3Rs might have new transmission tunnel?

Pretty sure the linkage is possible to retrofit, but the price I heard was beyond reason to bother!

I am not an expert but here is what I think/know. I have US #0057. It already has the mod for the improved turning radius. You lose a little space in the footwell but I have gotten used to it. (even with size 12 feet (size 46 for our UK brothers). And I removed the dead pedal which helped.

I tried to get the new shift linkage with my M12. No luck, something to do with the new tunnel on the M400. So far my shift linkage is okay.

Perhaps Simon or Stuart at the factory can tell us.

The front anti-roll bar would be another item.

That would require new wishbones and roll bar mounting points so I guess that'll be staying as an M400 only Item...

Dare I say the obvious, but if you want the things in an M400, buy / trade up to one.....

I agree with you Joust but I would prefer to option of the better shifter etc. without the stiffer suspension.

If you really want the better shifter I'd be surprised if you couldn't have it. I asked about retrofit and got given a price. It was however over 2000 GBP so I declined

Have you driven an M400? A few people (me included) actually think it's more compliant over bouncy B roads.

From what I know all the gearbox shift's (including my 2.5) have always benefited from being adjusted. My 2.5 shift was revolutionised by the guys up at the factory playing with it, and the dealers (in the shape of MV for me) now seem to also know the "tricks" to make them good.

Sure the M400 is a step forward, but from what I know the 5 speed and 6 speed can be made "snicky" with a little bit of fettling.

Justin,
It is my experience that they are chalk and cheese.

What, 5speed and 6speed?

If that's what you meant then yes, they are very different, but both can be made reasonably fast in the right hands.

The 3R 6 speed is a step up from the 5 speed, and the M400 is a step up from the 3R 6 speed

Justin,
I was talking about the difference between a 3R 'box and one of the new 'boxes as per the M400. While I agree that when you get used to them, and when they're "run in", and maybe after a bit of fettling, they are much better, but out of the crate the new 'boxs are MUCH better.

Martin.

Martin, so the 6-speed gearbox in the 3R is different to the one in the M400 - how so?!

Sorry, Rob, my post is a bit misleading. I believe the gearboxes are the same, the linkage in the M400 has been improved.

Martin.

All new 3Rs and M400s now have the revised gear linkage and improved steering lock.

We have no plans to include any other M400 equipment in the 3R, as an upgrade package or as standard kit.
