Motoring maintence gone wrong..

So changing the cam chain tensioner on the GF's E46 318i I've gone and snapped the coolant hose joint at the block...nowhere is open and she needs the car for work in the morning...ste...

Anybody else cocked up?

Often , chemical metal is you friend if there is enough left to build on ? if it's flush with the block though it rarely holds well enough, it needs something to grip on to and a smooth block surface isn't really enough although the rear water outlet on my Td head has been repaired (temp yeh right) like this for 3 years, TBH i doubt i could get the dam thing off now without involved surgery and chiseling.

That's an option!

Its a plastic fixing which has given up primarily, its attached to the block but then it goes inside the hose. Its broken at the end of the hose, so flush with the fixing that's still attached to the block. I may try this chemical metal stuff - that and some heat resistant tape around the outside...how would that cope with the heat and pressure?

For a 150k miles car that's worth c. £2.8k its ease that's the most pressing thing

Only fit the expansion tank cap loosely so the cooling system doesn't pressurise . Strictly a very temporary solution though, and she needs to drive gently while it's like this .

Are YOU at work? Or does your employer deem it in their interests to give you time off at the weekends. Surely your customers could need your product/service at weekends?

Fair point, would be nice if it could be like other retailers that cater opening times to demand (although I guess that it's weekdays for the trade parts desks...)

Looks like I'm towing it around the corner to the garage this evening - she didn't like the sound of the bodge (gets precious with it) - I'll just ask them to bodge it at the same time...

I did take the time to fit the tensioner though so hopefully that aspects now sorted and it'll stop rattling but the battery light came on yesterday - hoping with chain tension it'll fix itself else its likely the alternator...brilliant!

Looks like she'll be in my 540i this week, only thing parking on the road in a bust part of Sydenham I doubt it'll stay dent free to the end of the week

Yes that's the only locking nut I have for the Boxster.

Off to OPC tomorrow for a new one. Let me guess, £20-£30???

Why would you use an impact wrench on a wheel nut anyway? Tighten to specified torque; they don't need full-on FT treatment, and it avoids the horrors of trying to get a locking wheel nut removed.

Quite true.

Bit of a drunken purchase off Amazon. It has a digital display to set the torque you want. Thought I'd give it a try removing these nuts as I need to replace the pads.

To compound my misery the garage couldn't fit the car in today and the GF crashed mine into a post this morning...brilliant!

She works somewhere up near the top of the hill and station, a few roads away. She complains about the parking so assume that it's quite bad, hers has picked up a bumper scrape or 2 in only 9 weeks

What's even worse is now the alternator on hers has been confirmed as broken (after the hose was replaced today), the light came on at the weekend.

Guess that's my Sunday morning job! (Or give a part to the garage and £60), after this week I think the latter
