Our resident IT "expert" (where's Pwig's pound it smilie ?) has just installed some software on XP and then tried to copy the profile to all users.
Unfortunately he chose to overwrite the 'All Users' profile instead of 'Default User' one and has now managed to lose all the programs installed on the start menu / desktop.
Is there any way of restoring the original profiles ?

if you had system backup switched on you can go to
start,
programs
accessories
system tools and do a system restore to the previous checkpoint this should undo any changes that were done
And if we didn't . . . .
Then you're screwed. As you know, the 'All Users' profile is modified whenever you install an application. So, the question you're really asking is:
- I had a folder with 100 files in it
- I copied an empty folder over those 100 files
- How can I get the 100 files back.
The answer is either:
1) Traditional backup
2) XP's system restore (as the files are 'system files'.

so someone switched itr off then ?

I am not sure if backup was turned off.
The muppet in question took it upon themselves to install some CAD software whilst I was out.
I returned to find this problem and didn't have time last night to try and repair it.
That's Mondays problem
