Please help add weight to an on-going discussion between a friend and I. When talking RS4's, C63's and M3's (BMW need to made an estate version of the M3) which is cooler, saloon or estate?
I do not wish to steer the results so shall refrain from adding my preference till later in the conversation. I'd just be interested to see the result from the poll and read your comments on the debate, why do you prefer one over the other? What combination of elements makes one more appealing over the other?
Many thanks.
I found pictures of an RS4 Saloon and RS4 Avant, both with the optics pack and alcantara wheels, to help. Tried to find original press images to ensure no unfair aesthetic advantage was given. Anyone got them?

It depends on the car, with an RS4 I'd say the estate, as the idea of a 4WD monster with all that power in estate guise is just "right" for me, as the estate is, in my eyes, generally seen as a more "work a day" car than the saloon I think having a mad one is just way cooler than having a saloon equivalent.
Volvos are a perfect example IMO, I had a Volvo 850 T5R, it was an excellent car that I was a fool to sell and it just HAD to be an estate, no doubt about it.

Some estates are cool, but only because they are so uncool they have become cool, if that makes sense. Think of older Volvos and they have a bit of a cult following because of how damn good they are, which makes them cool. A bit of history helps as well.
But for the most part, estate's are associated with practicality and family needs. Saloons generally aren't. That is why the saloon is always more cool.
Anyone who says that an estate is more cool than a saloon is probably a dad, and slightly in denial. Could you imagine James Bond turning up to a casino in a sports saloon? Yes, although a V8V is more suited, its not too hard to imagine him turning up in a Jaguar saloon or one of its German equivalents.
RS6 avant? No, Mr Bond would not turn up to a casino in an Avant.
However, it all comes down to how vain you are and how much you care about other people think. If you buy a saloon car purely to look cool, then it's backfired already!
