Suitable car for back pain?

Our 7 year old smax needs to be replaced. I have 2 main criteria:
As we live on a slight hill, I need to be able to get home in the bad weather - winter tyres on the smax has not made this possible
I need a car that is comfortable for my bad lower back - preferably I need to sit with my hips higher than my knees and kmy nees at 90 degrees to the floor. I seem to think that a 'tall car' (SUV type vehicle makes this more possible???
Space for 2 kids important
I enjoy driving and picked the smax because at the time it was the most interesting of the family cars to drive, but its quite boring! We do c. 12k miles pa in this car. I'm keen to minimise depreciation costs so plan to buy second hand, at a point where the worst of the depreciation has been hit. I have 25k to spend and am considering an infiniti FX, X5, Merc ML. Any advice on comfort gratefully received. Many thanks

Volvos are supposed to have good seats, perhaps try an XC90?
I'd be going left-field and looking at something American here in order to satisfy your ride quality needs.
A Chevy Blazer 4wd is about the size of an Audi Q5, has squish-matic yank suspension, a 4.0 V6 and they were sold over here with RHD.
If you fancy something bigger, then the Chevy Suburban was also sold over here in RHD and crops up on ebay occasionally...... if you can find somewhere to park one!

Volvo seats were designed with the help of orthopaedic surgeons, and I personally love the them.
Seats in a Volvo S60 helped my mums Sciatica pain tremendously, and the XC90 seats work wonders on mine when I get achey.
Word of warning though, I wouldn't recommend the R-Design trim, the seats are OK. Slightly firmer (some prefer this) and have more support at the side presumably for a more sporty feel. They are comfortable when the car is still, but the stiffer suspension soon starts to interfere with the overall comfort and you won't be as impressed. But generally speaking, even the entry level trim seats are fantastically comfortable.
If you was looking for something brand new, you can get and XC90 on a VERY VERY GOOD deal at the moment! Over £10k off the OTR price can easily be had.

Try a Mazda CX-5. Even a fully loaded car is within your budget, and will give you an electric drivers seat with infinite levels of adjustment, and a fully adjustable steering column (reach and rake) which is also an important part of the puzzle when it comes to getting comfortable and minimising/eliminating back pain.
Heated seats, they do wonders for my back, I have something called Scheuermann's Disease (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scheuermann%27s_disease) mine is mild and wasn't picked up untill very recently after alot of hounding of my GP (but that is a seperate story) if i have had a bad day with it when i get in the car to drive home from work the heated seats really do make a huge difference, i take the long way home with them on sometimes just for the pain releif. Sadly can't afford an XC-90 but if i could i would have one for the reasons mentioned above, easily the most comfortable car i have ever sat in and good on my back, my requirements were similar to yours but my budget was 4% of what you have, but an XC-90 is on the cards next year
