Renting a digital piano, to then buy

Does anyone have any experience of renting a digital piano and then buying it from the dealer?
I'm looking for a company that can offer this, as my son has started to show an interest in playing.

I was thinking of renting the piano at first for 6 months, and if he likes playing, to buy it from the dealer.
Better than throwing £xxx away on something that would just sit in the room collecting dust.

Could anyone recommend a company?

I've got a real piano that you can have gratis, you'll just need to hire a van with a tail lift to come the 160 or so miles to collect it, but if you can then it's yours.

I'm only an amateur but I'd just buy a secondhand digital piano. Just make sure it's got a full size keyboard, full size keys, weighted and sustain pedal. And that the keys actually work.

I picked up mine for about £250. Heavy bastid to shift, though.

Thank you Jurbie, but one of the things i said to the other half is that i don't want a real piano. Reason being is that it will be too loud and will annoy the neighbours. Plus there is the tuning to consider, the weight and my back

With the digital piano you can use headphones, so the boy can practice as much (as as poorly) as he wants, and no one will be disturbed.

That's the thing though Hoofy. If i went out and bought the piano and If it was a passing fad, then i wouldn't have dropped £250 on something that will just collect dust; i can just give it back to the dealer.
Or if he really does like it, then we can just pay off the remaining amount and it will be ours.

I browsed a site about renting and it came to £500 a year or something for a decent digital piano. What kinds of prices are you getting quoted for?

It was about the same.
So a deposit of around 150, then 6 payments of 45 per month, followed with the option to pay off the remaining outstanding amount of about 360.
But that's just one company that offers the facility.

But then it's a boxed, brand new digital piano.

Oh, i guess then next question would be, what is a reasonably decent digital piano? And what should a novice be looking for...

As I say, I bought a Korg for £250 secondhand. Going the rental route doesn't make sense to me.
