Has anyone replaced their airbags?

I was browsing through the service book for my Audi Allroad and it says in there that at 14 years old all the airbags should be replaced.

I have 3 years left to get to this point but I guess it wont be cheap.

Is this common across all modern cars? I guess its due to the chemicals that provide the charge going past their use by date.

has anyone ever bothered replacing theirs?

Interesting, I did always wonder with my old 1998 Mondeo as it had 6 airbags and the replacement cost would have been many times the value.

I wouldn't bother replacing but given new MOT regs I hope they don't throw the airbag light on time!

I'd say 99.99% of those that do are wiring faults.

Mine came on once (on the same old Mondeo), it was the connector under the seat to the seat-belt pretensioner.

Meaning in terms of dashboard based servicing warnings eg. Volvo/BMW counting down to replacement date then throwing the warning when you're past it.
